#WATCH | Leh, Ladakh | On violent protests, Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council CEO Tashi Gyalson says, "... Innocent people who had come for a peaceful protest, somehow the crowd got mobilised, and suddenly the violence started... The ongoing hunger strike was quite peaceful initially and it was for... a larger demand. The people of Ladakh were a little concerned but there wasn't anything to worry about as the government was holding talks from time to time and finding a solution to the issue and had also given assurances that Ladakh would receive constitutional safeguards. Despite this, some narratives began circulating that the government isn't serious about talks and will not take action on constitutional safeguards... Some provocative people started making statements... But we never anticipated it. But on the 24th, such an incident occurred, which is unfortunate, and I strongly condemn it... We have requested the LG that there should be a thorough investigation into this. There should be transparency and accountability... When violence broke out, there was a lot of strictness from the police, and the result was this: four young people lost their lives, and many others were injured... There should be accountability for all the violence... There should be accountability for the excessive use of force to control the violence..." (26.09)show more

#WATCH | Delhi: Ladakh-based climate activist Sonam Wangchuk says, "In my personal life, I would say it (6 months in jail) was positive. It was an experience that gave me time to reflect on myself. From a justice perspective, many mistakes were made, many wrongs were done, and these mistakes should never happen to anyone. But the way they were withdrawn, I understand that there is an awareness of those mistakes, and where there is awareness, I won't revisit the issue. There should be no bitterness. We will come back to the table and move forward to move this country forward..."

Dharmendra Pradhan resigning will be the first step in accountability, the government will prove that it is of the people, for the people and by the people and is sensitive to what the people expect the government to do. There is a timing for announcing strict measures, however that time has really gone- it should have come earlier and not now when there is such immense build up of students anger.

Kate Harrision "For a long time in Canada, there was a consensus on immigration." "Systemic repeated failures that really started under the last government have undermined that system." "And the AG Report confirms a lot of the skepticism and cynicism that people have about the integrity of our system." "...Are we expected to believe that everything there is going just fine?" "...this is why there needs to be some accountability on the part of the Minister and the government for having mismanaged this program for so long." Kate Harrison

#WATCH | Jammu and Kashmir Assembly calls a one-day session to condemn #PahalgamTerroristAttack When asked if there should be talks with Pakistan, PDP MLA Waheed Para says, "More importantly, justice should be done." He said, "I think there's a strong dissent in Kashmir against this act of violence, and it's a communal act. They (terrorists) are trying to break us. People of Kashmir stand with the nation. They feel and understand the pain of the country and those who died in this attack are our martyrs and we are with the nation in this situation. I think the Government of India will respond. But from Kashmir, I will say that there is a strong resentment against violence for the first time in the last 30 years."

Through dialogue, solutions can be found. We will also get an opportunity to raise the reforms we want. We have been discussing many such reforms outside, but there has been no accountability. Discussions are happening in the media and during protests, but the real discussion needs to happen before the government. The government must answer. Young people are unemployed, and imposing such penalties on them is not right...They say the discussion will begin after 2 PM today. Let it continue all night if necessary, but accountability must be ensured. We are certainly in favour of a discussion, but during that discussion, answers must be provided regarding the firing of shots—why were the children of our own country subjected to such mistreatment and violence?..."

VIDEO | Activist Sonam Wangchuk says, "I am from Ladakh, and I am an environmental activist. I hope the government will sincerely carry forward the ongoing process of protecting Ladakh's mountains and ensuring democracy for its people... Together, we should strengthen and keep our borders peaceful while moving forward on the path of development. In Ladakh, this process should continue with complete honesty and in consultation with the people. Similarly, in our neighbouring Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, the promises made to the people, whether regarding statehood or democratic rights, should also be fulfilled. That is my expectation. I am saying this from my own perspective because I come from that region. As for the rest of the country, there should be meaningful reforms in education. No student or parent should have to go through the hardships that these students and their families have had to endure." (Full video available on PTI Videos -
