The "Genocide Scholars" will never admit that the war would end if Hamas would release the hostages and relinquish power. After all, if the real intention is to "destroy a people," why would it matter if hostages were released or a regime was changed? This paints them into the far-fetched corner of pretending that the was in Gaza has nothing to do with Hamas or hostages.
