I train puppies for Leader Dogs For the Blind. The Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) says that Service animals must be treated like crutches and wheelchairs. They can go anywhere and that includes grocery stores, restaurants, airplanes, etc. Some common sense must be used. You shouldn’t bring a Service animal into an operating room or the wolf exhibit at a zoo. The law differentiates between service animals and comfort animals. Service animals perform a service, comfort animals provide comfort. Comfort animals are not afforded the same privileges as Service animals. But there are several problems with the law. There is no standardized licensing procedure for Service animals, trainers, and owners. As a result, anyone can go on Amazon and purchase a jacket for their dog that says Service animal. Incidentally not all service Animals are dogs. These fake Service animals are a real problem. They have been known to attack people, and there is a case I know of where a fake service dog killed a real service dog. Oddly enough, a manager or employee cannot ask an owner what their disability is, but they can ask what service the animal provides. In this movie, I see several questions. Is this monkey a service animal or a comfort animal? If it is a service animal, what service does it provide? And in the case of Karen‘s complaint, it could be a caring disease, but so could she. A well trained manager should know the rules and if they were called over, should be able to solve the problem. But the boy in the wheelchair had the right idea. I have faced this when I bring dogs. I am training into stores. Many people know the rules now, but on rare occasions, I am challenged. When I am, I don’t argue I leave. On occasion, I will send them a letter after the incident.

Not directly related to the video but a lot of people seem confused. IRL a monkey can't be a service animal. People are mistaking service animals, which do have specific training and requirements tied to them, with emotional support animals that can actually be anything.

When she said “Monkeys carry diseases” sure wild monkeys, but domestic animals carry less diseases. Humans also carry diseases. Every species on this earth is capable of having diseases. Also ADA service animal accommodations don’t exclude grocery stores.
