My NRC colleagues in Lebanon are witnessing horrific scenes of destruction and death in civilian areas. Bombardment of civilian areas is a grave violation of humanitarian law. There must be an immediate ceasefire, Israel and Hezbollah must stop their attacks, and Israel must withdraw from the Lebanese territory it currently occupies.

Israel just bombed several residential area in Lebanon, violated Security Council resolution SCR 1701, ceasefire agreement, and international law with absolutely no consequences. Lebanon has the right to defend itself under international law.

Anyone who is defending the attacks on Israel by Hamas is defending terrorism. Israel has the right to retaliate and defend their territory, as seen below. I get it, that Palestinians believe that Israel belongs to them, but that doesn't warrant an outright attack on the citizens. There are a lot of people who disagree with borders and boundaries, but that doesn't make it OK to invade and attack.

We have a 45-day ceasefire. We’ve had weekly meetings now and ongoing daily engagements between the government of Lebanon and Israel. The problem is not Lebanon and Israel. The problem is Hezbollah. Just last night Hezbollah put out a statement calling for the overthrow of the Lebanese government. And it just reminds you who you’re dealing with here - by the way, an Iranian proxy, 100% Iranian proxy. And as long as an armed Hezbollah exists, it’s going to be hard to achieve peace in Lebanon because they’re victimizing the people of Lebanon. They’re not just attacking Israel.
