Ways I like to work and experiment: For this search input component, I can strip away pretty much all of the surrounding UI and focus entirely on the component in isolation. From there, I can quickly jump between different states, bringing back parts of the UI or the full...

baller isolating pieces away from everything else is something I push a lot in shift nudge

Helps declutter and focus - then put all the pieces back together

Love this! Did something similar last week, and stripping the surroundings kills the bias the rest of the ui puts on you. Ended up adding a state machine diagram too so I could see and replay every state and path easily

Isolating it like this is underrated. Jumping between states is where you catch the bad transitions, like empty to loading to results. Do you build a state switcher per component?

Yeah, for this one I built it into the prototype. I can cycle through interactions automatically or take over and play with it myself, then strip away or bring back the surrounding UI to see how those transitions feel in context.

I love how expressive the motion. It’s so easy to go overboard with springs.

Agree … took a few turns to make that feel nice but bouncy

Yea, agents can never get that right on the first or 10th try. Haha

jumping states on one search input with the surrounding ui stripped is the experiment loop i keep skipping. i still tweak in the full layout and lie to myself its faster

Can the query and keyboard focus survive bringing the full UI back?

yes

Isolating the search bar until it becomes just a floating pill with a pixel grid is one thing; reintegrating it into that wall of posters while still making it feel right is the real achievement
