We have it so wrong in America people judge addicts and want to put them behind bars and what people don't realize is most addicts are trying to numb trauma with whatever they choose to use.

I worked outside Waveland, MS after hurricane Katrina delivering fema trailers. Brought one to a dad and his two kids. It started off like many others. The only thing they had left was a concrete slab. In the middle of the install I asked him where was he during the storm. He proceeded to tell me that they had stayed. I was in shock. He said when the water started to rise in the first floor they went to the second floor. Then when the water started filling in the second floor him, his wife and two kids climbed into the attic. When the water started filling the attic he used a shotgun to blow holes in the roof and he broke open a hole. They all piled out on the roof in the middle of the hurricane. He took rope and tied everyone together with the kids in the middle. The water kept rising and a wave finally washed them off the roof. They fought for hours in a sea of debris. His wife ended up getting crushed and drowned. Tragically she was pulling the kids down and he had to make the decision to cut her loose to save the kids. I cried every time I thought about that after seeing the pain in his and his kids eyes. I hope he’s doing well now. I never got to go back and check on him.

It hurts but a man has to have the ability to move on. It happened like god wanted it to happen, there is a lesson and you have to keep going

Lord give him strength! His poor heart is broken! Only Jesus Christ can restore peace to that man’s spirit!

I had to deliver my dead daughter in my bèdroom. She was fine the night before. 4 1/2 years of hell later, I got sober. I am celebrating 20 years of sobriety today. We can all recover.

Some heartbreaks can never heal.. 💔

I was working as a waitress in high school. A well dressed older couple asked for a private booth away from other customers. They ordered drinks. Each time I went to check on them- the woman looked a little more upset. They wouldn't order food. I knew something was wrong. I brought them both a bowl of soup & a bread basket - told them it was on me. Next time I came back to remove the soup bowls- the husband grabbed my hand & thanked me for my kindness. He said his wife hadn't eaten in days- she had just lost her mother to cancer. I shared a tearfilled hug with her- told her how deeply sorry I was for her loss. She kissed my cheek. I will NEVER forget that day. BE KIND ❤️
