If 2024 was the year of the Money Market Fund rush in Kenya's investment landscape, 2025 is without a doubt the year of the Special Funds rush. Special Funds reported the highest increase between Q1/2025 & Q2/2025 (up 31.0%) to Kes 113.39 billion, placing Fixed Income Funds at a relatively distant second at 23.0% up to Kes 105.63 billion & almost double the growth in Money Market Funds which posted 17.0% to Kes 372.81 billion. The 5th largest player in the unit trusts market, Britam Cares (Kes 41.1 billion AUM, 6.9% market share), now plans to make its foray into the Special Funds space. However, the CEO tells me it won't be like anything we have seen thus far in the market...they intend to do it differently.
