Had an interesting conversation this weekend with an older relative who's politics are "just be a good person". She's relatively wealthy and gives to the types of causes you would expect this type of person to give. She gives her time too. She is actually a good person. I asked her if she was ever concerned that the causes she gave to would reduce the proportion of people like her in the world. She said that she thought the opposite. That she was inspired by the generosity and kindness of others, and that by giving she would increase the proportion of people like her. I said I believed she inspires her peers, but her peers aren't the people she's giving money to. Do they become productive and generous people, like her? Or is she just increasing the proportion of people who are takers and don't give anything back? Despite decades of generosity, this was clearly a question she had never thought about. The implications made her uncomfortable, and the conversation basically ended after that.

Glenn, who identifies as pansexual, recently announced that she is taking a break from social media following backlash for speaking out against the Trump administration. At a press conference for the Winter Olympics on February 4, Glenn said: "It's been a hard time for the community overall under this administration. It isn't the first time that we've had to come together as a community and try and fight for our human rights." She continued: "And now, especially, it's not just affecting the queer community but many other communities. And I think that we are able to support each other in a way that we didn't have to before. And, because of that, it's made us a lot stronger."
