But today, I’ve taken every single flag down from my house. Why? Because in Great Britain, flying the British flag now feels like a crime. Think about that. An immigrant like me, who loves this country, is being made to feel ashamed of the very flag that represents it. The same flag that stands for freedom, sacrifice, and unity. I didn’t take them down because I wanted to. I took them down because I was made to feel like I had to. That’s not the Britain I came to believe in. If flying the Union Jack & Welsh Flag is now an act of defiance, then maybe it says more about the state of this country than it does about me.
