Steve Yzerman admitted he isn’t shocked the Red Wings fell from where they were in the standings. “We had concerns,” he said at his season-ending press conference. He and Kris Draper saw flaws even through the winning. "We were in third overall or something, and we're like, let's be realistic," Yzerman recalled on Thursday. "I don't think we're as good as our record at the time, but we are winning games, and we are where we are, and at the deadline we were where we were, and for the most part we were playing at .600 hockey, a little over .600, and at the end we were under .400."

California law does not allow us to do that. California law does permit us to assist them. Two weeks ago, we launched the Mobile Triage Center on 6th Street because the status quo clearly wasn’t working. Halfway through the 30-day pilot, the data shows that we are getting people off the street and connected to medical care and shelter. When I visited this week, neighbors told me they’ve noticed a decrease in drug dealing. Clearly, when we focus law enforcement and public health resources, we can disrupt this dangerous, illegal activity. As the pilot continues, we will continue to measure outcomes and learn. We are also exploring how to expand these solutions to other parts of the city, including the Mission and Jefferson Square Park, where a multi-agency law enforcement team arrested dozens at a drug market this week. We will scale these efforts and tackle this issue citywide.

Management received a briefing on ongoing joint law enforcement disruptive operations by the police to prevent and combat illegal mining and related activities. We have dedicated crime-combatting operations that have been deployed from the province to assist the district — they are operating under the command of the District Commissioner. Plans are afoot to ensure we augment and add to the existing capacity based on what we have uncovered thus far. We have also been briefed on the ongoing operations through #OperationShanela II. In the last 24 hours, 3 illegal miners were arrested and 10 excavators and other illegal mining machinery were seized. ME

If only we had similar leadership with backbone like this today: “Those who are illegal immigrants will be returned and it is customary international law for countries to recieve their own immigrants. If the right honourable gentleman is suggesting that we ever get to a position where we cannot return illegal immigrants to their country of origin, then he is proposing international chaos.”
