- "We're so back guys" - uses a quote having nothing to do with the subject

Chrysostom assumes the ordinary practice of memorial images of the dead and argues that the written words of the saints are a superior image of their souls rather than their bodies. Preferring the greater does not abolish the lesser. He is not issuing a prohibition. This is standard rhetorical elevation of Scripture, not iconoclasm. Chrysostom himself affirmed images of the saints

I agree with this, but affirming images of the saints doesn't quite equal venerating them, and that's where I'm stopping until I can think about it further.

If sticking on Chrysostom…. In The Life of Chrysostom (cited by John of Damascus) he records that Chrysostom kept an icon of St. Paul in his cell, gazed at it while studying the epistles, and addressed the saint through it “as if he were alive.” That is direct personal veneration of the image, not mere tolerance of pictures.

Yeah that quote doesn't refute icons, but idols. Icons don't manifest the presence.

Reading comprehension being weaponized by White here...insulting peoples intelligence, just as he insulted his own intelligence in this debate.

St John of Damascus: In the life of John Chrysostom it is written thus, verbatim: And the blessed John exceedingly loved the epistles of the most wise Paul. And after a little: And he also had the portrait of the same apostle Paul in an icon, where he rested for a short while because of the weakness of his body; for he was very wakeful beyond nature. And when he went through his epistles, he would gaze at it and as if he were alive, he thus attended to him, calling him blessed, and he held all his thought towards him, imagining and speaking with him through the vision. And after other things: And when Proclus stopped speaking, gazing at the icon of the apostle and seeing his likeness was similar to the one who had appeared to him, he made a prostration to John and said, pointing to the icon: Forgive me, father. The one I saw speaking to you is like this one; and as I suppose, he is the very one.

Yes the Protestants are indeed so back at taking the saints of Christ's holy church out of context

This was one of his stronger arguments, but it has an obvious weakness: John Chrysostom is not denying the utility of images, in fact he begins by affirming them and then by comparison makes a point about the Bible.

Another BS Protestant trying to save face. He does the same thing with St. Chrysostom (whose name he cannot pronounce). Chop it up, take a sliver out, and spew propaganda. Prots are experts at this.

Dr. White would be scandalized by Saint John Chrysostom’s Liturgy. This is Protestant Quote-mining 101. Bastardize from the Church Fathers to shape and fit to our relativist World Protestant Paradigm.

It's wild that he think this quote demonstrates that the view of Chysostom was iconoclastic. And Chysostom believed in real presence, infant baptism, and the apostolic episcopate. So why doesn't White go along with Chysostom on the other topics if he thinks he supports him here?

since he is citing St Chrysostom as authoritative, maybe he should look up what he said about the veneration of relics
