Lake levels across the Tennessee Valley continue to be impacted by ongoing drought conditions. James Everett, General Manager of River Management, explains what we’re seeing across our lakes and rivers, and what to expect as we head into summer. Even with some recent rain, not all of that water is reaching our lakes. As a result, levels are lower than what we typically see this time of year. A very active weather pattern is setting up for next week, with multiple storm systems lined up to sweep across the US. It'll all begin with heavy rain slamming the West Coast this weekend into early next week, then the pattern shifts east as a parade of storms brings widespread rain, warm temperatures, and even the potential for severe weather. Because of the warmth, most of these will be rain makers, with only our brotheren in the western mountains being the only folks to get in on the snow. And although Severe Weather is certainty possible, the details still need to be ironed out. Nothing is guaranteed - but it’s definitely on the table in this setup. Get ready to get wet. 🌧️

Dubai airport looks like an apocalyptic movie. Videos of the flooding are insane. I’ve seen some blaming climate change when the cause is actually from the use of weather modification. Cloud seeding where chemicals are sprayed in clouds to create rain caused this. We recently banned this practice in my home state of Tennessee. Anytime you modify the weather you open yourself up to unintended consequences.

Water rescues are ongoing this morning in Anderson, Indiana, after extraordinary rainfall sent water into streets, neighborhoods and homes. And the concern is now shifting to the White River. As of 5:30 a.m. EDT Thursday, the White River at Anderson was at 17.9 feet and rising. Flood stage is 10 feet. The latest National Weather Service forecast calls for the river to crest near 23 feet this evening, reaching major flood stage and approaching the flood of record. The situation is still evolving, with additional rain possible. What we’re seeing now could be only part of this flood story. Our crew is here as Anderson braces for a potentially historic crest. The Weather Channel is live.

Flash flooding and damaging wind gusts are possible, and conditions could deteriorate quickly. Limit travel during inclement weather. Never drive or walk into flooded areas. If you live in a basement, be ready to move to a higher floor.

Heavy rainfall and flooding have left a lot of debris in Douglas Lake. To manage this issue, we are installing a one-mile-wide boom near Dandridge, Tennessee, to capture floating and submerged debris in the water. This work will contain the debris until we can work with our partners to remove it from the lake.

Southern California is bracing for a major storm expected to bring high winds and potentially months’ worth of rain in just one week. The system is set to hit the California coast late Tuesday, with torrential rain developing across Southern California early Wednesday and continuing through the evening. The Weather Prediction Center has issued a Level 4 of 4 high risk for flooding rain on Wednesday, impacting nearly six million people. Gov. Gavin Newsom has mobilized state resources ahead of the storm. Los Angeles County has issued evacuation orders and warnings for areas in and around recent burn scars due to the risk of flooding and debris flows. Evacuation warnings are also in place for parts of Ventura and Santa Barbara counties. Another storm is expected to arrive Thursday and continue into Friday, adding to concerns as the week unfolds.
