I lived in MrBeast 's makeshift city while I competed for $5 million as part of the largest game show in history. While I didn’t win the grand prize, I became convinced that creators are natural candidates to lead massive long-term living communities. Let me explain: MY BEAST CITY EXPERIENCE Beast City was complete with sports facilities, a five-story tower, a cafe, cabin-style housing for 500, and a college-style quad. Living in Beast City felt less like a high-stakes game and more like a fully-realized experimental society. It was clearly designed with communal purpose in mind - sleeping quarters were positioned along the edges, while common gathering spaces occupied the center. This layout encouraged natural interactions, chance meetings, and shared moments that felt organic, not forced. Connections formed while we ate breakfast, strategized in small groups, or played sports in between official challenges. While viewers at home watching Beast Games will remember the psychological twists, the monster trucks, and the private islands, the most enduring legacy of Beast City for the bulk of its residents will be the bonds we formed with other contestants in this Nuketown lookalike. As many would remark on Instagram or in groupchats afterwards “other people just won’t understand what it was like.” The bubble we lived in helped us become friends faster. Most folks there shared both 1) a common appreciation for Mr. Beast’s content and 2) a distinct experience participating in the games. The experience helped reinforce a hypothesis of mine: creators are extremely well positioned to lead IRL experiences that foster organic connection, make money, and help address a loneliness crisis. CREATORS SHOULD CREATE THEMED OVERNIGHT IRL EXPERIENCES 1 in 5 US adults say they feel lonely every day. This is partially because of the decline of our in-person communities. Jobs are increasingly remote. School is online. Dating is in the DMs. Our generation barely goes to church any more, but we do tune in to watch our favorite creators every week. Creators have the distribution and loyalty to create themed IRL experiences and fill them with their fans. This advantage should not be overlooked. Elsewhere on the internet, coliving communities and startup cities attempting to host IRL experiences struggle to aggregate demand. Creators don’t have that challenge. To some extent, creators already host meet ups. 💯 Jesser hosts basketball tournaments. Alexandra Botez and Andrea Botez hosted an overnight chess camp. I predict that these creator-led living experiences will get longer and support more people. It’s now very feasible that 1,000 people who follow a certain creator online could live in the same place for a whole year. Balaji has a large audience on X where he also writes extensively about tech and Network States. A single tweet he wrote in August about a three month “Network School” pop-up (more on that in another forthcoming post) generated so much demand that we filled the first cohort of 150 people instantly and built a waitlist of ~5,000 people with no other marketing. Large creators will follow suit to host IRL longterm living experiences because it can be very profitable (and fun!). If creators develop/rent a campus where housing units cost them $250-1,000/month, they can easily charge $2-4,000/month by including basic shared amenities and themed programming. Dedicated fans will pay the premium to live near a community of like-minded folks. That margin is a great business model, and I can think of a few obvious ways this could happen soon: 1) I imagine that Bryan Johnson will build a longevity-focused living community that prioritizes great sleep conditions and healthy foods. 2) Video game creators will might creating the ideal configuration for gaming with each other with e-sports arenas and gigabit internet connections. 3) Musicians can host songwriting camps and longer-term housing organized around recording studios so that they can make songs whenever genius strikes. We humans are happiest surrounded by people we admire or love. YouTubers and other creators with large, engaged audiences are best positioned to use their internet audiences to aggregate demand into themed massive living experiences that will profitably help participants feel the same belonging we all crave. My partner and I got attacked at Download Festival on Sunday. We just stopped to watch a band and a women sat about 10 feet behind us in a chair marched up behind us and shouted 'f*cking get out of my way'. We told her it's a festival, we can stand where we like and you can stand up if you want to see the band. chill out! A young women next to me said she had said the same to her. The woman then continued a tirade of verbal abuse which included, you are a pair of 'big c*ocks', and 'I am going to hit you'. She then ran up behind me, ripped my hat off my head which pulled my neck back and then threw my hat into the crowd. Her male friend then punched my partner in the face. When I turned I pushed her away from me, she then grabbed my hair and kept pulling it until I was on the ground she then repeatedly kicked me in the head, face and body with her heavy boots . Luckily some wonderful bystanders pulled her away from me, as she was much bigger than me, both in height and width. We went to the security and police and they said because I pushed her I would be offered a Community Resolution, which I refused to accept. They also said we might be evicted from the festival. We were not treated as victims of assault we were treated as trouble makers. The police failed to take a full statement from us and the Download security didn't even bother talking to us, just the people that attacked us. These terrible people weren't arrested or evicted from the festival, they were allowed to stay and to potentially go on to verbally abuse and attack other innocent people. I complained to the police and did another statement yesterday. The man taking the statement was shocked as it did not come across as we were victims at all in the statement taken at the festival. It's shocking that a police office saw the video of me on the floor being repeatedly kicked in the head and face and failed to report it correctly, identify us a victims of assault and evict or arrest our attackers. I am a 55 year old woman with epilepsy, I don't drink or take drugs, my parter is 53 and didn't drink as he was driving. I was looking forward to Download as a distraction as my Mum has just been killed by medical negligence and I have been spending my time dealing with the coroners and all that goes with it. It's been the worst time of my life and this experience has just sent me over the edge. Shame on the police for victim blaming and failing to protect the public from dangerous people. As for the person at Download security you should be ashamed of yourself, believing them over us and not bothering to collect evidence from both sides. I have attached a video of me being attacked and some photos of the aggressive woman. In one of the photos you can see her being held back, so she would have happily gone back in to attack me again. I had to go home as I didn't feel safe staying, as they were still at the festival, plus I wasn't in any fit state to stay. I currently can't work as my chest has been stamped on and i'm struggling to move and breath properly. Eating is fun as the right side of my face and teeth are really uncomfortable and my lip is cut. My vision has also been intermittently blurry and I have felt dizzy. I work for myself, so getting paid time off isn't an option. We did get some witnesses but if you or anyone you know saw this women attacking or verbally abusing anyone please let me know. Let's get the face of the women who thinks it's ok to stamp on someones face and head at Download Festival known. People like this should be banned from any festival for life. You can be a great team with resources that rank in the middle of your conference. You can take a job and have success at a school in which the administration has higher expectations than they give you resources. The reality is, it is difficult to get any head coaching position, especially for those looking for their first. First time head coaches usually aren’t getting max resourced jobs in high school, college, or in the pros. The resource excuse is often a crutch for coaches: “We didn’t beat them because they have more.” “How are we suppose to win with our facilities?” “We travel in vans. They travel charter; they are more well-rested and prepared.” When deciding whether to apply for, go through the hiring process, and ultimately, making the decision to accept a new position, coaches should ask themselves three questions: 1. “Is my new administration open-minded to finding creative solutions to bridging the resource gaps so we can provide the best experience for our student-athletes?” -Creating revenue: My current athletic director David Spafford has taught me a lot about revenue creation in athletics. There are a lot of ways to bridge the budget gap including fundraising, corporate sponsorships, ticket sales, facility rentals, camps, and much more. The possibilities are endless. If you are looking at a position where the allocated resources aren’t where they need to be to compete then ask yourself if you’re the right person to help create revenue. You’ll see a job where the previous 10 years yielded multiple coaches and no success. Then one coach comes in and turns everything around without a change to the allocated resources. Chances are, the new coach is a better fit for the job than prior coaches. They usually arrive with a bag full of creative solutions and positive energy to move the program forward. If you don’t have budget money for post-workout nutrition for your student-athletes then go raise money. If you need a new weight room then go talk to corporate sponsors around the community about giving X amount of dollars annually for the next 10 years. Get an architectural rendering. Go out and show the community what is needed, why it benefits them and others. Remember, actual coaching is a small percentage of the job. Building a program is so much more. 2. “What do I need as a coach for success, what are my non-negotiables, and does this position provide them so I can help the school, program, and student-athletes achieve success?” -Every coach needs talented players, but it’s more than that. Style of play is really important for each coach. Does the job you’re considering allow you to work with and develop the type of athlete you need to be successful. Some coaches are flexible in working with different leadership styles, many are not. Can you handle an athletic director who micro-manages or who can and will blow up on you? Do you prefer a more hands-off AD? What kind of boss do you need and does the job provide it? Make a list of 3-5 non-negotiables. Does the job have them? If they don’t then you already know your answer. The job has to line up with your core values. 3. “Can we compete towards the top third of the conference if I am the head coach at this job?” -The quality of every job is ultimately on a sliding scale based on how good the conference is. Maybe the job you are considering is poorly-resourced but it’s also in a weak conference. This is the type of job you should consider taking. The jobs you need to avoid are the worst jobs within the best leagues. You can take and find success in a low-resourced positions if the league is just ok. However, there is minimal pathway to success if you’re in the best league and at an under-resourced school. If you do catch lighting in a bottle, there won’t be sustainability with this set up.

To be serious, it doesn't make any logical sense especially when I have to return to the classroom and back to the job market. This was however necessary for me to pursue a new path for my family. When I was at Microsoft, on several occasions, I felt Microsoft was God's sent to Africa and I am the Evangelist. Explain to me why a company is investing so much in capacity development in Africa like Microsoft. Through relevant skills, we can bring many out of poverty, save them from the after-effects of unemployment, make them dream big and achieve it, and keep alive hopes in the hearts of millions of others with similar backgrounds like mine. So, I took my work with passion and purpose. I was allowed to support academic institutes in several countries and I appeared as a Guest Lecturer for Masters Courses on Advance Data Analytics. I relocated to the US and everything changed, back to the classroom but now as a Student. Indeed a humbling experience for me. I love every opportunity I have to make complex topics simple. Rick Rubin: "Make what you love, not what you think people will like" "If you want to live in a creative way, which will benefit everything in your life, be a better person in your family, do a better job starting a new business, it's all the same. I don't really know anything about music. It's more a way of looking at the world and wanting it to be the best it could possibly be. And doing whatever it takes to be the best it could possibly be." Rubin shares how his career happened: "From the beginning, I never thought any of the things I'm doing were possible or realistic. I just did things out of the love of them, thinking I would have real jobs. That my passion would be my hobby, and I'd have a job to support my hobby. And it just magically turned out different than that without me knowing it was possible." On why some things connect and others don't: "The stars line up at certain times for certain things to happen. Sometimes you can make something great, and it doesn't connect for whatever reason. Sometimes you make two things you think are the two best things you've ever made. One of them connects with the world. One of them doesn't. And it might not have anything to do with what's in the art. It might be that it came out the same day as something else. Or there was a bigger story at the time. There's so much to it that we don't understand." He continues: "All we can do is make something good and put it out and hope for the best. That's all there is. We never know why things work. Even if you make a piece of art and it works, you may not know why." On talent versus work ethic: "There are a lot of talented people who never make it because they don't have the work ethic. It's not just talent, talent's a piece. And you could argue for some people, the work ethic trumps the talent." Rubin explains what real collaboration is: "Having worked with a lot of bands, I see there's often this friction where people are trying to get their idea in. That's not a collaboration. A real collaboration is when everyone who's there is working together towards whatever is the best thing for the whole. Whether it's your idea or someone else's idea, it doesn't matter. If you're invested in the collaboration, you want the best idea to win. You don't want your idea to win." On what makes art great: "What makes it great is the personal. With all of its imperfections. With all of its quirkiness. That's what makes it great. How you see the world that's different from how everyone else sees the world. That's why you're an artist. That's your purpose in sharing your work with the world." He warns against being derivative: "There are these derivative voices where they're finding what they think other people want to hear, and they start saying it because they've heard other people say similar things that are now successful. The people who you first see and you might not like that you come to like because you don't understand them at first, those are the ones that change the world. And still they arrive with blue light brigades, business class flights, taxpayer-funded accommodation, VIP protection, and an unshakable belief that they’re doing the nation a favour simply by showing up.
