Britain never had a wealth tax. It had very high rates of marginal income tax, which very few actually paid. The tax burden was lower in the early 70s than it is now, despite much higher marginal tax rates. What does that tell you?

You could give your net worth to build a new homeless shelter Gary. Or give your money to a school so the kids eat free school dinners for years to come? You could fund the building of new infrastructure that some schools need. Or pay uni tuition fees. Why not do that Gary?
