France’s President Emmanuel Macron says France would be “there” for Greece if Türkiye ever challenged its sovereignty. At the same time, France is expanding its military footprint in the Eastern Mediterranean - with troops set to be stationed in South Cyprus under a new SOFA agreement, adding to its existing access at the Evangelos Florakis Naval Base in Mari. Once again, the Greek Cypriot administration is allowing external powers to militarise Cyprus - an island where Türkiye is already a guarantor power under international law. Then came Hakan Fidan’s response. The Turkish Foreign Minister called France a “small European country” and made Türkiye’s position clear: “Don’t hide behind the US. If you can, come and do it yourself.” Türkiye will continue to defend its interests, its rights, the Turkish Cypriot people, and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. France has no business interfering in Cyprus.

Today, I gained access to a private conference held in Athens, Greece to promote deeper ties between Israel, Greece and Cyprus. The speakers included Israel's Deputy Foreign Minister, Israel's Ambassador to Greece, Greece's Minister of Tourism and Greece's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs. This week, Reason2Resist will publish excerpts from their speeches. The excerpts reveal how Israel, Greece and Cyprus seek to profit from the criminal war of aggression on Iran. One of the speakers at the conference was Averof Neofytou, a Cypriot MP who was formerly the President of the Democratic Rally of Cyprus. In this clip, Neofytou tells Israel's ambassador to Greece (seated second from the left) that, having started the war on Iran, Israel must now "finish the job" and that "we must suffer" the consequences. And we are going to do it—not because we have anything against Israel; on the contrary, we are a people who are friends of the Israeli people—but we do not agree with the actions being carried out by its government. And any government that violates international law, and therefore violates the principles and values of the European Union, cannot be a partner of the European Union.
