The US mission in Afghan was to destroy the Taliban government and hunt down Osama bin Laden and al Qaeda. Our military forces did most of that. Then some lame brain in the State Dept wanted our troops to spread democracy. That is not a military mission. Everything went to pot once Bush insisted on this.
