for years I've said that kids need to be sent to boot camp for a year. Get into a fight in school....Bootcamp Steal....Bootcamp Can't keep your pants up....Bootcamp Let every child learn God, Country, respect, loyalty and honor. And if the parents don't want this then it needs to be law. We should also send Children into prison for a few days. Scare the hell out of them. If the parents can't control their children we will.

A fight doesn't warrant lethal force, and when adults frame it that way, we're programming young people to skip every step between frustration and tragedy. Teaching de-escalation, emotional regulation, and accountability saves lives. Austin Metcalf deserved to go home that day. That's the conversation we should be having.

I was in track all 4 years in high school and we mingle with everyone. Austin should have kept his hands to himself and it’s sad he paid the ultimate price by losing his life but he still had accountability in his actions. He shouldn’t have died but he also played a role in it

EVERYONE wanted to test me, and I took all challengers. Not due to race, due to standing up for myself. I went through it, got arrested, dropped out of high school, then worked full time while going to school at night. I now run the biggest company in my field in Atlanta. I tell my kids all the time, do not co-sign for someone else’s opinion just because they speak with conviction and a loud voice, while using feelings instead of facts, then resorting to ostracizing, and slander when someone has a reasonable question or disagreement. My son is on spectrum & we work on controlling emotions all the time. It’s sad parents with normal children don’t. Controlling your emotions is difficult for young & adult children.

Why didn't Anthony's father teach him how to respond to people appropriately? Because a lot of this comes down to either Anthony's father wasn't teaching his son boundaries and appropriate behavior or he just wasn't teaching him anything. I'm not saying that this isn't Anthony's fault, but we really do need to look at how parents, particularly fathers, are or aren't involved in their children's lives to teach them morals and ethics.
