We started a podcast. In Hindi. This is "Episode 1: Founder Ke Paise." Abhijeet and I have had lots of long conversations about startups, founders, and building companies. Our conversations were more honest and direct when we talked in Hindi. When we discuss ideas in Hindi, everything becomes easy and effortless. Many of our friends have had the same experience. But we couldn't find anyone in the Bay Area openly discussing ideas in Hindi. So, we decided to start a podcast in Hindi to bring these discussions and conversations to everyone. We plan to discuss anything we find interesting. We also plan to have interesting and accomplished guests. I think they'll share lots of insights that are lost because of the language. Hope you all like it.

We are at the start of a once-in-a-century transformation of medicine in America. Government has to get a lot right to make clinical AI a win for patients, physicians, and taxpayers alike. I discussed this topic with CMS Innovation Center Director Abe Sutton at 8VC earlier this week. One thing that should give us confidence is the level of talent, curiosity, and mission focus among members of this administration. Abe and other leaders at CMS and HHS are thinking deeply about how we get this right. Ask a friend at any point along the political spectrum and they will probably say the same: we are lucky to have this set of leaders at this crucial moment in American healthcare.

Just concluded what may have been the hottest event of New York Tech Week. Over 150 young Jews in tech and finance came together for an evening of mitzvahs, meaningful conversations, and Jewish pride. Hosted at Vine Ventures, with special thanks to Dan Povitsky, Rabbi Mordechai Lightstone, and Eric Reiner for helping make it happen. Founders, investors, operators, and builders from some of the world’s leading companies gathered around one table to connect, strengthen their Jewish identity, enjoy authentic kosher New York food, and celebrate what unites us. It was a truly beautiful evening. Looking forward to the next one on the 17th.

Paul Graham’s advice for future startup founders: “Just learn” “If you make a conscious effort to try and think of startup ideas, you will think of ideas that are not only bad but bad and plausible-sounding—meaning you and everybody else will be fooled by them and you’ll waste a lot of time before realizing they’re no good.” As Paul Graham explains, the way to come up with good startup ideas is to take a step back: “Instead of trying to make a conscious effort to think of startup ideas, turn your brain into the type that has startup ideas unconsciously.” You do this by: 1. Learning a lot about things that matter 2. Working on problems that interest you 3. With people you like and respect (this is incidentally how you get co-founders at the same time as the idea) “The component of entrepreneurship that really matters is domain expertise. Larry Page is Larry Page because he was an expert on search. And he became an expert on search because he was genuinely interested in it, not because of some ulterior motive.” PG continues: “At its best, starting a startup is merely an ulterior motive for curiosity, and you’ll do it best if you introduce the ulterior motive at the end of the process. Cerebras CEO Andrew Feldman talks about why there are so few young semiconductor chip founders: “The silicon industry is not a place for 25yo CEOs, no matter how smart you are. The returns to having built parts before [10-15x] are enormous.” He says the “number of relationships you need” are extraordinary and can only come from experience and connections in the industry (fabs, IP, EDA toolmakers, cloud providers, backend engineers, logic engineers etc). Many software startups are different as young founders work in markets and build for consumers they are similar age to. Feldman is 54. He spent decades in tech hardware. Sold previous startup (SeaMicro) to AMD and spent few years there as GM before founding Cerebras in 2016 (four other Cerebras cofounders were also at SeaMicro and worked at AMD after acquisition).
