Sergey Lavrov has hinted that CSTO members may consider measures against Armenia that could call its place in the military bloc into question, after more than two years of non-participation and unpaid contributions. He accused Yerevan of skipping CSTO events while expanding military cooperation with NATO countries and the EU, which he said is itself becoming a “militarised structure.” Lavrov also cited Armenian FM Ararat Mirzoyan as saying on June 7: “We aren't paying contributions because we simply are not participating.” According to Lavrov, Armenia has owed money to the CSTO budget for more than two years, and member states have agreed to look at invoking the relevant article of the CSTO Charter.
