I've read enough sci-fi to love a good towed sentry, but the real win is regulatory. Keeping military action off the host vessel sidesteps insurance voids and port exclusions. Proper naval architecture applied to a policy problem.

We have also concluded a good number of bilateral agreements and broader partnerships with European countries that can help bring Ukraine’s new defense technologies into wider use, including drone and counter-drone systems that are already proving effective. Today, every country needs the modern means to at least monitor and protect its own airspace and sea borders. Without Ukraine, without Ukraine’s experience and security expertise, tested in modern war, it is simply impossible to guarantee security today, especially when it comes to air defense and maritime security. A Turkish Navy warship arrived in Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu, on Saturday and docked at the Port of Mogadishu. The vessel, TCG Göksu (F-497), is a Gabya-class frigate that has previously operated off the Somali coast as part of Turkey’s naval mission in the region. The warship has been involved in providing security and escort for Turkish vessels conducting maritime energy exploration activities off Somalia, including the Oruç Reis seismic research vessel. Its arrival comes as Turkey continues to strengthen its maritime presence and security cooperation with Somalia, including efforts to protect maritime activities and support the security of Somalia’s territorial waters.
