He compared today’s AI moment to the birth of the internet, saying light-touch U.S. regulation once unleashed a wave of innovation that left Europe behind: “Listen, this is the single most important economic question in the country and in the world. Who wins the race for AI? You look back to the 1990s, there was a similar inflection point with the dawn of the internet, and Bill Clinton was president at the time. He signed an executive order, just like you’re doing, that put into law a light-touch regulatory approach to the internet, and the result was incredible economic growth and jobs in the United States.
