They were abandoned because they were slow and caused cognitive load.

It was cool for a bit in the early 2000s, but ultimately became obnoxious. People just wanted to quickly get the info that they needed from a site and web designers were standing in the way with all this nonsense (source: I was a web designer back then).

This was my inspiration, and they are back!

Flash was unnecessarily complex :) but interesting

Flash websites used to be the big thing back in the day, and they created truly special and memorable designs for literally everything. Nowadays most entities look to promote things on social media because it has a much bigger audience than an official website ever can have, and that’s why they hardly spend anything on those

I don't think we forgot how to make it, it's just that most sites today are more focused on running on many devices. These type of sites would never have run on ios or android devices.

So many replies of folks that judge it in todays eyes. This stuff blew our minds. We didn't HAVE mobile phones to worry about it running on. They loaded fast and worked fine. Compare this with the scrolly-telling insanity we have today and its just as usable.

This is not a website, it's an animation. As such, it imposes many restrictions and that's exactly why it died. Not to mention the huge security hole.

I still have nightmares from slicing these in photoshop

That's about as much a website as an interactive YouTube video slapped into an iframe There's a reason why stuff like flash, silverlight, and director died ..and yes they had cool feature's

I don't think we forgot. We just have to annoyingly design for more devices. Having to design and build for one platform enabled for some really incredible designs.

damn, that is just php (I assume, cause back in the days that was the most popular one, I guess) how the heck did they even do that

then they removed flash and we couldn’t play games anymore and websites sucked cause’ of html

It's true, Flash made me start my career as a designer after my engineering degree, and it's all over now—I have to move to Java since Apple stopped supporting it in browsers. It was really fun programming with Flash and ActionScript.

We traded masterpieces for mobile-first

We need to bring back Flash Player with GPU acceleration

When the internet felt like the future..

Nobody forget. It’s just nobody need useless static unresponsive websites

Thank God we dropped Flash from the web. It was never a good fit. Those sites only operated correctly in perfect hermetically sealed environments. And they broke the second your mom, and only ever website visitor, opened it in IE.

Not true:

woah this looks like something @CDisillusion would do

wont work on mobile devices due to screen size. you're welcome we have not forgotten anything, we just got constrained.

I’ve been redesigning a Winamp player and one I finish it I’m planning on creating a whole series. I remember being blown away by them as a kid and not many products give me that feeling nowadays

We did not forget, it was just not very effective.

I remember that website!!! That was a reference for me at that time! Amazing

this is what happens when everyone just cargo cults minimalist design until every drop of wonder is squeezed out

Remember Phong? And Andyart? And “raspage”? And “

@coinstare The day Flash died was one of the happiest.

Flash is down for a good reason

I'm still doing cool things

Flash was great except for what @jimboot said. I enjoyed working with it.

The only possible thing that we should do with anyone that criticizes these websites:

Terrible for SEO though

Actionscript days!!!
