This argument misunderstands leadership and politics. Peter Obi saying Seyi Makinde is qualified to be President does not mean he is campaigning for him or abandoning his own ambition. A confident leader can recognise competence in others without feeling threatened. Must Obi pretend that nobody else is qualified just to prove he wants the job? Nigeria has many capable leaders, and acknowledging that is political maturity, not disunity. Recognising another person's capacity is not surrendering your ambition. Nigeria's leadership problem is bigger than one man's ambition.

I actually want to believe that the APM will eventually join forces with the NDC and other opposition parties to form a strong alliance ahead of the 2027 presidential election. The honest truth is that, in my opinion, candidates such as Seyi Makinde may struggle to defeat the APC presidential candidate if the opposition remains divided and each party insists on pursuing its own candidate. As far as I am concerned, the APC candidate remains a very strong contender for the 2027 presidential election and has a realistic chance of winning decisively if the opposition continues to divide its votes. This is why I believe the only realistic strategy for the opposition is to come together, put their individual ambitions aside, and present a single candidate who can command broad support across different parts of Nigeria. For me, Peter Obi remains one of the strongest options for such an alliance. He already has a significant following among Nigerians, and many people who supported him in 2023 are still strongly behind him. If these opposition parties genuinely want to challenge the APC, they cannot afford to remain divided. If Atiku, Obi, Makinde and the other opposition figures contest separately, they could simply split the anti-APC vote and make victory easier for the ruling party. 2027 may ultimately come down to one major question: Can the opposition put personal ambition aside and unite behind one candidate?
