The Refaat Alareer Camp is a medical camp, meaning we have criteria for the families that we bring in who have vulnerable conditions, chronic illnesses or injuries, so that we utilize our services and facilities to benefit those who need help the most. We have an onsite medical clinic that cares for our camp families, takes in patients from the area, and also fills medication and treatment requests we refer to them. Our team of nurses and doctors work diligently to host medical days to quell outbreaks of communicable diseases, provide nutritional support to hospital patients, and visit families in dire need who cannot afford even transport to see a doctor. They are heroes in a collapsing healthcare system. Our medical team recently held complete medical assessments for every resident in the camp. Medication that has been available for free at our Tawbah Clinic is not always available at other medical points in Gaza - and when it is available, it certainly is not always free. For patients with chronic diseases like diabetes and hypertension, consistency is everything. Medication cannot be available this week and disappear the next. Treatment cannot depend on whether The Sameer Project has funding that month. Consistent treatment. Medications kept in stock. Zero charge to the patient. This is what chronic disease care must look like during a genocide. These patients have endured enough. They should not also have to wonder where their next month of medication will come from while an untreated condition steadily deteriorates into an emergency. All mutual aid groups are suffering from drops in donations and are scrambling to fill the void left by others. On January 25th, The Sameer Project did a medical day in the Tuyoor Muhajera (migrant birds) Camp in Khan Younis. An extremely neglected camp with no medical point nearby, the néed was extremely high. Help: The Sameer Project medical team examined 250 patients and provided treatment for 126 cases of scabies, 56 cases of asthma and upper respiratory tract infection and 22 cases of hypertension. Total cost with 9% commission was $1,407. Medical days are crucial for Palestinians in Gaza, especially with many medical organizations expected to forcefully close down. Thousands of people with chronic illnesses depend on UNRWA for monthly refills and haven’t gotten them for months so we urge you to provide support. With the ceasefire signed and goods promised to enter Gaza, we are still waiting for one of the most important aid items: MEDICATION. More than 70% of types of medication are not available in Gaza. What is available is difficult to find and expensive for patients that have no income or means to pay. At the Refaat Alareer Camp we have some of the most serious medical cases, that should be in hospitals, but because of overcrowding they are discharged to tents. Requests for medical help come in daily. The occupation’s attacks on the healthcare system has rendered all hospitals only partially functioning and clinics have been destroyed. We saw this need for supplemental medical care and we stepped up with your help. It cost approximately $20,000 per month to keep just one of our medical points stocked with gauze, bandages, medicine, saline, IV’s, and other necessities. Nebulizer machines, blood pressure equipment, oximeters, secretion suction machines, are all added costs. Many of our patients need hard to find treatment for seizures like Keppra. And we supply it all to them for free to aid in their rehabilitation and maintenance. We need your help supporting the sick and the injured in Gaza. The elderly in Gaza are extremely marginalized. Patients with diabetes, blood pressure, heart disease, kidney dialysis, etc. have little to no access to medical care. Even transport costs to hospitals are a massive struggle. Donate : This is why the Translating Falasteen (Translating Falasteen (Palestine)) x Sameer Project is working on setting up a medical point in Sawarha, Central Gaza. We rented an 8,000 meter squared land to set up the medical point with accommodation for the doctors and some tents for critical medical cases. The medical point will be running 24/7 providing wound change, dental care, physiotherapy, dermatology services & more. The preparation of the land is costing $70,000 so far and we need at least $30,000 for medical equipment and medication. Our hearts break for children like Amir who remain in the North. We are terrified for him and how he will receive care. Children like Amir with genetic conditions like cerebral palsy or disabilities that make it difficult to evacuate with him. He relies on expensive and hard to find medication to control his seizures and manage his situation. Diapers for his hygiene, and nutritious food for his health. "I send a message to the whole world to stand by me and every Palestinian hostage" Imagine losing a leg and then getting imprisoned and then losing your eyesight. That’s what happened to Mahmoud Abu Foul at the age of 28. He was abducted from Kamal Adwan hospital on December 27th and endured 8 months of brutal torture, beatings and humiliation. Mahmoud like many other returned hostages isn’t getting the proper medical care and can’t get a prosthetic leg as it is not available in Gaza. Borders need to open for doctors and field hospitals to provide adequate treatment. Till then, The Sameer Project are providing medical care through our Sawarha medical point and medical treatment camp to Mahmoud and others like him. Meanwhile, we gave Mahmoud dressings and medications worth $68 and cash aid. We are looking to support the released hostages with medical and mental health care. We cannot go back to this - burned and maimed babies, child martyrs, families torn apart. Prior to the ceasefire agreement, in one of the last mass casualty attacks (before today) our medical point in our Sawarha Camp received baby Rosa who had severe facial and upper torso burns from a fire that broke out after an airstrike. Her grandfather, who is one of her primary caretakers was also injured. Since then, the Translating Falasteen (Translating Falasteen (Palestine)) x The Sameer Project medical team has been following up with Rosa for daily wound cleanings and burn debridement. We provided her with medication and burn cream and we are following up with scar cream as well. Thanks to the detailed personal care, weeks later Rosa is healing well and will make a full recovery. The pediatric department at Nasser Hospital requested our help!! Support: There is a huge influx of patients at the hospital in Khan Younis due to displacements from the North and the number of malnourished and sick babies being born daily. In a 24 hour period, the pediatric ward had 1,000 patients visit with is 10x the usual number. Mothers, babies, children are sprawled out on the hospital floor because of the overcrowding. The Sameer Project responded by delivering 30 mattresses so that the huge number of cases have somewhere to rest and recover. Each mattress cost $75, with the total coming to $2,239 after 11% commission. We are always glad to be able to support the hospitals that are working so hard to take care of patients. The Port Camp, west of Gaza City, now homes over 15,000 people who have been displaced after forced evacuation from other areas in the North. It is one of the poorest encampments since families fled there with nothing. It is also one of the most under supported areas due to the shear number of residents and the massive needs. There are injured and sick, young and old, all with dire medical needs. The healthcare system in Gaza is non existant, particularly in the North where every hospital has been rendered either partially or completely out of service.
