We have multiple #solarstorms hitting Earth this week, which could bring us #aurora filled skies over the next few days. Even though over 18 active regions are in Earth-view, the risk for big flares and #RadioBlackouts decreases slightly this week. The 5-Day Outlooks are below.

As awesome as ever. (I wonder if you might "lip synch" with a slightly ~half-second advanced sound track like Dean Martin and Dick Clark, fwiw.) I have missed the show but hope to catch up. Also hope you may touch on Sun nucleus? And also gravity weaves from nearby neutron pairs and Sag A*. Any thoughts on Higgs size approximately same as superluminous x-ray source of binary neutron stars?

It’s #SunDay! This week’s (Sept. 12 - 18) space weather report includes: · 1 C-class flare · 38 coronal mass ejections · 1 geomagnetic storm This video from NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) shows the week’s activity. There were plenty of coronal mass ejections this week, but it was a very quiet period for solar flares. Most flares erupt from active regions — spots that appear brighter here, with swirling loops of solar material — so the flare count and the number of visible active regions are related. This week, there were very few active regions on the Earth-facing side of the Sun. Look how “bare” the Sun looks in the first minute of this video! More on flares & coronal mass ejections:

SDO ended its Earth eclipse period this week just in time for an uninterrupted view of a barrage of solar flares! This week, one active region in particular — AR4366, which rotates onto the Earth-facing disk of the Sun at the beginning of this video — unleashed a whopping six X-class flares this week, and all but three of this week’s 72 M-class flares. This one is worth a watch!🤩

A minor geomagnetic storm is possible tonight, which may produce auroras visible from the northern United States. The source is a coronal hole that has aligned with Earth. Coronal holes are darker, lower density regions on the Sun where fast solar wind escapes. We talked more about them in a post last month!

Several #solarstorms are coming along with more fast solar wind this week. The first storm could hit late today March 23 or early March 24. The second could graze Earth late March 25. Fast wind to follow. I will have a forecast out shortly that goes into these events in detail.
