We have touchdown...AGAIN! 🌘 Yesterday the Vikram Lander fired up its thrusters once again to perform a little hop on the Lunar surface, becoming only the 2nd spacecraft to ever do so! 🥈 It lifted off, got to an altitude of only 40 cm and then landed again 30-40... show more

Does the hop experiment also measures the effects of gravity acceleration of the moon?.

Isn't it well understood already?

Here is what it means in simple terms:

Interesting info: 👇 1. Vikram Lander: Vikram Lander is a crucial component of the mission, responsible for landing on the Moon's surface and conducting experiments. 2. Hop Experiment: The successful hop experiment involved Vikram Lander firing its engines, lifting itself by about 40 cm, and landing safely within a specific range. 3. Mission Objectives: Vikram Lander exceeded its mission objectives, showcasing its capabilities and reliability for future lunar missions. 4. Future Missions: This achievement is essential as it paves the way for future lunar endeavors, including sample return missions and potential human missions. 5. Health of Systems: All systems on the lander performed nominally, indicating that the spacecraft remains in good health. 6. Deployable Instruments: Instruments like the Ramp, ChaSTE, and ILSA were successfully deployed and retracted as part of the experiment.

India🇮🇳 creates history. Two visitors from India — a lander named Vikram and a rover named Pragyan — landed in the southern polar region of the moon. The two robots, from a mission named #Chandrayaan3, make India the first country to ever reach this part of the lunar surface in one piece - and only the fourth country ever to land on the moon. And we are alive to see this day! Congratulations to ISRO! Salute to your commitment!

#WATCH | Thiruvananthapuram | On ISRO successfully performing docking of satellites as part of SpaDeX Mission, former ISRO Scientist and Padma Bhushan Nambi Narayanan says, "My reaction is happiness. It is something we all have been dreaming of for years. It is something which has been achieved by only three nations- China, the US and Russia- and now we are the fourth nation to do this. It was a pre-requirement for future missions of ISRO and Gaganyaan mission. In every future mission, we will need to do docking for outer space missions."

President Trump gave the world the Artemis Program, and NASA and our partners have the plan to deliver. We will standardize architecture where possible, add missions and accelerate flight rate, execute in an evolutionary way, and safely return American astronauts to the Moon, this time to stay. This is the NASA that once changed the world. This is the NASA that will do it again.

China on Wednesday successfully conducted a low-altitude demonstration and verification flight test for its Long March-10 carrier rocket and a maximum dynamic pressure abort flight test for its new-generation crewed spaceship system Mengzhou in the southern island province of Hainan, marking a major breakthrough for the country's future crewed lunar landing missions. The return capsule of the new-generation Mengzhou crewed spaceship has safely splashed down in the predetermined sea area, according to the China Manned Space Agency.

NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman says the primary objective of the Artemis II’s trip around the moon is “to gather data from the ECLSS system, the life support system on the Orion spacecraft,” which will be used in future missions. “Learning as much as we can about Orion is critically important because Artemis III is a year away,” he says. “That's where we're going to test the same spacecraft with our lunar landers. Followed up in 2028 by Artemis IV, where we're going to use this spacecraft, transfer crew to the landers, and put American astronauts back on the surface of the moon.”

This was Big Boy's first unplanned stop, just outside Wheatland in the Great Central Valley of California. We had just watched it go by when I looked in the rearview mirror and noticed the train had stopped. We turned around and jumped out of the car, hoping to get a closer view. The sky that day was so dramatic, adding to the scene. Once the freight train passed, Big Boy started rolling again, so we followed it only to find it on the siding again, where we got right up to it as seen in the last video.
