Senior Hamas official Dr. Basem Naim addressed demands for Hamas to disarm in an interview with Sky News’ Yalda Hakim. He spoke of possible “modalities” to “control the portfolio,” but emphasized this would not mean stripping the resistance of its arms. Naim said Palestinians would only disarm once there is an independent Palestinian state, at which point weapons would be integrated into a national army — a position Hamas and other resistance leaders have consistently maintained throughout negotiations.
