Honoring a Victory for Human Rights Today, I arrived in the Central Kgalagadi Game Reserve (CKGR) to honor the life of Gaoberekwe Pitseng, a man whose right to be buried in his ancestral land was unjustly denied by the previous government. For nearly three years, his body remained in a mortuary as his family fought tirelessly for the dignity of his final resting place. As their former legal representative, I worked alongside his family to advocate for their wishes, but sadly, the court ruled against us, siding with the government at the time. Basarwa, like all of us, hold deeply rooted indigenous beliefs that deserve respect and recognition. It was profoundly unjust for Gaoberekwe Pitseng to be denied the right to choose his resting place, a privilege afforded to every other Motswana. Upon assuming office, I directed that this government would no longer contest his burial in CKGR. Instead, we granted his family the opportunity to lay him to rest in his ancestral home, fulfilling what his spirit needed to rest in peace. I wish it never had to come to this, but we are here now, finally making this right. Tomorrow, on World Human Rights Day, Gaoberekwe Pitseng will be buried in CKGR, resting in perfect peace with his ancestors. This is a powerful moment for human rights, dignity, and justice. I joined our people in CKGR today to prepare for this significant occasion. It is well! 🙏 #GaoberekwePitsengRests #HumanRights #CentralKgalagadiGameReserve

May the souls of our departed UNRWA colleagues rest in peace, and may we draw strength from their example as we continue our vital work in the pursuit of a better world. Below is my full speech, as we gathered at World Health Organization (WHO) to honour our colleagues, who lost their lives, with a minute of silence: Dear colleagues, Today, we gather with heavy hearts to remember and honor our dear UN colleagues who tragically lost their lives in #Gaza. Their unwavering commitment, sacrifice, and bravery will forever be etched in our memories. These dedicated individuals embodied the spirit of the United Nations, standing on the frontlines of conflict zones to provide much-needed humanitarian assistance and support. They put their lives on the line to bring hope and relief to those affected by violence and despair. Their memory and the impact they made will forever remain. Their unwavering dedication to peace, justice, and the well-being of others serves as a guiding light and a reminder of the importance of our shared mission. In the face of immense challenges and danger, they remained steadfast in their commitment to make a difference in the lives of those they served. Their courage and selflessness touched the lives of countless individuals and communities. Today, we honor their memory and recommit ourselves to the pursuit of peace, justice, and the well-being of all people. We extend our deepest condolences and support to the families and loved ones left behind. Their loss is immeasurable, and we stand in solidarity with them during this difficult time. As we reflect on the lives of our fallen colleagues, let us also recognize the importance of unity and collaboration. Together, we can continue their important work and strive for a world where conflicts are resolved peacefully, where the rights of all individuals are respected, and where humanitarian aid reaches those in need without impediment. May the souls of our departed UN colleagues rest in peace, and may we draw strength from their example as we continue our vital work in the pursuit of a better world. May the path to lasting peace be paved for Palestinians and Israelis. May the wounds of the past be healed, and may Palestinians and Israelis find true peace, reconciliation, and coexistence, fostering a future of mutual respect, prosperity, and harmony. I now ask you to join me in a minute’s silence in honor of their memory and sacrifice, and for peace.

Today we gathered in Kilimani to memorialize a man's legacy on Galana road. It was a gathering of friends who walked with him through decades of struggle, fellow human rights defenders who stood beside him in courtrooms and in conscience, and his beloved widow Viloo, whose quiet strength and partnership made so much of his work possible. Pheroze Nowrojee was a Senior Counsel, poet, defender of the Constitution, and a dear friend. When the Moi government was arresting, detaining, and torturing protestors in the 1980s and 1990s, Pheroze walked into those courtrooms and stood beside political detainees, activists, journalists, and opposition leaders that no one else would touch, among them Koigi wa Wamwere and Raila Odinga, whose detentions without trial were a grim hallmark of that era. He challenged the constitutionality of sedition laws, he questioned detention without trial, and through his collective efforts with a generation of fearless lawyers, we laid much of the legal groundwork for Kenya's eventual return to multiparty democracy. The democracy we enjoy today has his fingerprints on it. He spent his life standing for justice when it was costly, defending the rule of law when it was inconvenient, and doing it all with a quiet brilliance and humanity that left everyone who encountered him changed. Today, his name is beyond the courtrooms and constitutions; it is on a road. Pheroze was more than a legal giant, he was my mentor, a guide, and a friend. I carry his teachings with me as we continue to strive for the Kenya he believed in and gave his life to build. Asante, Pheroze. Nairobi will carry your name forward.

They say General Constantino Chiwenga will come back in a coffin. They whisper it in the corridors of power. They spread it in the dark corners where fear and ambition mix. When he was sick, many counted him out. The vultures circled. The opportunists sharpened their knives. "He is finished," they declared with glee. But remember Lazarus.Lazarus had been four days in the grave. His body was cold. The tomb was sealed. The sisters wept, and the crowd had all but lost hope. The situation was beyond human repair. Yet Jesus looked at that hopeless scene and said, "DON'T write him off yet." For he shall surely walk out of the grave and dwell among the living.General Chiwenga is no ordinary man. He is a son of the soil, a liberator who stood when others trembled, a leader whose body may have been attacked by illness but whose spirit remains unbreakable. The same God who called Lazarus forth is the same God watching over our nation today. To those who are quick to bury the General: hold your tongues and your pens. The chapter is not closed. The stone is not permanent. Resurrection power is real. To all patriots who stand with truth and constitutional order: Just do your part. Pray without ceasing. Speak truth without fear. Prepare the ground for genuine leadership that puts Zimbabwe first. And trust God to do His own.He who raised Lazarus is more than able to raise a servant who still has work to do for his people. Zimbabwe shall rise. Not through manipulation or extension of terms, but through the will of God and the will of the people. General (Rtd) Winston Sigauke Mapuranga Old soldier. War veteran. Servant of Zimbabwe. May God protect and guide our nation.

🙏🇺🇸🙏 U.S. Air Force Captain Seth R. Koval — one of six Airmen who lost their lives while supporting Operation Epic Fury. For those who knew Seth, he was far more than a pilot or an officer in uniform. He was a husband, a father, a son, a brother, and a friend whose presence filled the lives of the people around him with love and strength. Seth grew up dreaming of becoming a pilot. That dream eventually became a life of service, one he carried with pride every time he put on his uniform. Those close to him say he loved what he did and felt honored to serve others through his work in the Air Force. But the people who knew him best remember something even greater than his career. They remember a man who was loving, generous, and kind-hearted. A man who always looked for ways to help others. Someone who could fix almost anything, who loved the outdoors, and who never hesitated to put the needs of others before his own. Above all, Seth was a devoted family man. His wife shared the heartbreak their family is now facing, describing the unimaginable pain of losing the person she loved most. In her words, Seth was not only an exceptional Airman, but the most incredible husband, father, son, brother, and friend anyone could ask for. She shared that one of the greatest honors of her life was standing beside him as he achieved the dream he had carried since childhood — becoming a pilot and serving his country. Though his life was cut far too short, Seth's legacy continues to live on through the family he loved deeply, especially in the smile of his young son who will carry a part of his father's spirit forward. For the Koval family, the days ahead will not be easy. Yet they have expressed deep gratitude for the love and support that has surrounded them during this painful time. Across communities and within the Air Force family, many people are remembering Captain Seth R. Koval not only for the uniform he wore, but for the life he lived - a life marked by service, faith, and love for others. Today we pause to honor him and to keep his family, friends, and fellow Airmen in our thoughts. - May Capt. Seth R. Koval rest in peace, and may his service and legacy never be forgotten 🙏🇺🇸🙏

✅Explanation of Meaning (by parts): 1. “If one were to believe in something significant” : The author begins by suggesting that belief should be reserved for ideas of profound importance, setting the stage for a vision that transcends ordinary convictions. This implies a call to focus on a grand, meaningful ideal worthy of faith and commitment. 2. “then it should be in the immortality of Humanity” : The author proposes that the most significant belief is in humanity’s potential for immortality, not as individuals but as a species. This vision of eternal existence emphasizes the enduring survival and legacy of humankind across time. 3. “relying on its ability to live eternally” : This immortality depends on humanity’s capacity to sustain its existence indefinitely. The author highlights the potential for human ingenuity, resilience, and adaptability to overcome challenges and ensure perpetual survival. 4. “and humanely” : The author qualifies this immortality with the condition of living humanely, suggesting that eternal existence must be rooted in compassion, ethics, and respect for life. This underscores the importance of moral integrity in humanity’s long-term survival. 5. “across the expanses of the Universe” : The author envisions this eternal, humane existence unfolding on a cosmic scale, with humanity expanding beyond Earth to inhabit the vast Universe. This reflects an ambitious aspiration for interstellar exploration and colonization, aligning with a space-faring future. 🗝️Main Idea (refined version): The author advocates that the most profound belief should be in humanity’s immortality, achieved through its capacity to live eternally and humanely across the Universe. This vision calls for faith in our ability to overcome existential challenges through resilience and ethical living, ensuring a lasting, compassionate presence in the cosmos. By embracing this ideal, humanity can aspire to a legacy that transcends Earth, uniting technological advancement with moral principles to create a future where we thrive indefinitely among the stars, embodying our highest values in an expansive, interconnected Universe.

The Rise of a Global Force: 11,000 GCV Warriors Uniting for Freedom I am thrilled to share that the GCV Warrior movement continues to grow at an unprecedented pace. Just last week, I set new goals for two countries — Vietnam and Thailand — and I am proud to say that both accepted their missions with pride, honor, and unwavering commitment. Vietnam has stepped forward with a powerful pledge of 3,000 Warriors, ready to serve and protect the vision of the GCV movement. This incredible progress is guided by the Regional General Commander of Vietnam, Mr. Dao Duc Viet, whose excellent leadership continues to inspire discipline and unity across all regions. Supporting him are strong and dedicated leaders General Ms. Nguyen Minh Nguyet, General Ms. Vo Thi Dien, General Dao Van Long, and Lieutenant Do Thi Thuy each giving their best to strengthen Vietnam’s GCV foundation. Thailand has responded with an even greater force, committing 7,700 Warriors. This number has deep significance: Thailand has 77 provinces, and each province will raise 100 Warriors, ensuring every region is empowered and aligned with the global GCV mission. This incredible nationwide effort is being led by Regional Commander Theerawut Jantaman, whose resilience, discipline, and extraordinary leadership continue to unite Thailand’s provinces toward one shared vision. Our Warriors fully understand the importance of their role: to spread Ms. Doris’ education, strengthen global unity, and ensure the GCV Movement reaches communities far and wide. Education is the foundation, and our Warriors are the carriers of truth, clarity, and empowerment. I have been working closely with these teams training them, motivating them, and inspiring them to rise as leaders in their regions. Their dedication reminds us that this mission is bigger than any one person. It is a global alliance built on unity, service, and purpose. I have already created around 20 to 30 certificates, and I will continue posting the rest tomorrow to formally recognize the leaders rising from each region. With the combined commitments from Vietnam and Thailand, plus the latest Warriors, our total now reaches 11,000 Warriors all fighting for freedom, defending the Pi Network vision, and uplifting the GCV movement across the world. The momentum is real. The unity is growing. And the spirit of the GCV Warriors is stronger than ever. 🔊Church: WE ARE AT THE END, and we need to push back like never before. Let’s pray like we have NEVER PRAYED BEFORE! Lord, 🕊️ We come to You in the name of Jesus — not in our own strength, but covered by the blood of the Lamb! Today we lay at Your feet every burden we have been carrying: the weight of the lies of this world, the intense spiritual warfare, and now the powerful "alien" deception we are up against! The wars and rumors of wars, the waiting, the pain, the wounds, the fear, the anxiety, the uncertainty! The constant attacks against our minds, our families, our marriages, our health, and our faith! 🛸Father, the enemy has risen with more lies and deception! Even those in authority are speaking confusion, mixing truth and error, clouding discernment of many in your Church. False prophets continue to speak with seducing words, as the world continues the pursue of false peace—but Your Word has warned us that these things would come! So today we put on the WHOLE ARMOR OF GOD AND WE STAND STRONG refusing every trap and every lie! 👉🏼We gird our waists with TRUTH! 👉🏼We clothe ourselves with the breastplate of RIGHTEOUSNESS! 👉🏼We shod our feet with the preparation of the gospel of PEACE! 👉🏼Above all, we take up the shield of faith and quench every fiery dart of the wicked one! 👉🏼We put on the helmet of salvation! 👉🏼And we take up the sword of the Spirit — which is the WORD OF GOD! 👉🏼"Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints!" ⚫We acknowledge that we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, powers, rulers of darkness, and spiritual hosts of wickedness in heavenly places! 👆🏼And we declare that GREATER IS HE WHO IS IN US THAN HE WHO IS IN THE WORLD! 🩸IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST — by the power of His blood and under the authority You have given us — we break and dismantle every stronghold that is trying to operate against our minds, our hearts, and our wills! 💣Every spirit of DECEPTION, heaviness, fear, weariness, discouragement, depression, hopelessness, confusion, bondage, strife, and unforgiveness — WE COMMAND THEM TO LEAVE RIGHT NOW IN JESUS’ NAME! ❌WE RENOUNCE every lie spoken over and against us! Every narrative that seeks to destroy the Word of God in us, every voice of doubt, failure, accusation, and condemnation — and ALL fear rooted in uncertainty about the future! ⚔️We cast down lies, arguments, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and we bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ! 💥Lord, please break the lies of this world! Expose the darkness! Tear down every throne of deceit! 🛡️With the sword of truth in our hands — WE PRESS FORWARD! With the shield of faith lifted high — WE STAND STRONG!!! LORD, EXPOSE EVERY: 💥false narrative! 💥every false gospel! 💥every doctrine of demons! 💥every counterfeit spirit! 💥every wolf! 💥every goat! 💥every false teacher pretending to speak in Your name!!! ❌Silence the voices that twist Your truth! Awaken Your church and give us CLEAR MINDS and HOLY DISCERNMENT!!! 🩸Purify Your bride, Lord! 🩸Burn away compromise! 🩸Destroy lukewarmness! 🩸Cut away every idol and every hidden deception! 🩸Guard Your flock with heavenly armor! 🩸Raise up watchmen on the walls! 🩸Raise up shepherds who will not bow to deception! 🔬Teach Your people to test the spirits, to stand bold, to speak truth, and to REFUSE TO COMPROMISE! ⚡Let Your Word strike like lightning — dividing truth from error! FATHER, WE NOW STAND IN THE GAP FOR THE LOST! 👉🏼For our mothers and fathers, our sons and daughters, our sisters and brothers, our friends, our neighbors, and every soul still trapped in darkness! 🙏🏼Father, while mercy is still available, while repentance is still possible, while the door of grace is still open — PLEASE SAVE THEM! ⚔️We come against every spirit of deception, blindness, rebellion, pride, unbelief, false religion, false peace, fear, and hardness of heart! 💣We tear down every stronghold built through trauma, shame, bitterness, abuse, addiction, lust, hopelessness, and despair! We break every chain in the mighty name of Jesus Christ! 🕊️Holy Spirit, pursue them relentlessly — yet gently. Meet them in dreams. Meet them in their pain. Meet them in the silence they cannot escape! Cause divine interruptions! Send laborers across their path! Expose what is false! Collapse what is built on sand! Lord Jesus, reveal Yourself to them as You truly are: 👉🏼THE WAY, 👉🏼THE TRUTH, 👉🏼AND THE LIFE! Let scales fall from their eyes! Let hearts of stone become hearts of flesh! Let prodigals COME HOME! 🩸We declare that TODAY IS THE DAY OF SALVATION! 🩸We declare that the cross is ENOUGH! 🩸We declare that chains WILL BREAK! 🩸We declare that salvation belongs to our God! 🛡️Lord, protect Your people from the deception that is coming upon the earth! Help us remain watchful, faithful, and discerning until the very end! 🪽Hide us in the secret place of the Most High. Cover us under Your wings. Command Your angels to protect and minister to us and our families! 🛡️We will not be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by day, nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday. A thousand may fall at our side, and ten thousand at our right hand, BUT IT SHALL NOT COME NEAR US!!! ❌We declare that NO WEAPON formed against Your Church shall prosper! 🕯️Lord, give Your Church wisdom so that when we are asked or confronted with the deception that is coming out—about “UAPs,” “UFOs,” “aliens,” or any other misleading narratives—that we may respond with discernment in Your truth, rooted in Your Word, with NO fear or confusion, always pointing hearts back to Jesus Christ, the WAY THE TRUTH AND THE LIFE!! 💪🏼Give us strength to keep fighting until the trumpet sounds! Help us endure until the end and help us stand in this world: UNASHAMED! UNMOVED! UNBROKEN! UNDECEIVED! 🙌🏼We lift our eyes to YOU, TO YOU ALONE BE: 👉🏼ALL GLORY, 👉🏼ALL HONOR, 👉🏼ALL POWER, 👉🏼AND ALL DOMINION FOREVER! YOU ARE OUR LORD, THE KING OF KINGS, THE ONE WHO IS, WHO WAS, AND WHO IS TO COME! THE ALPHA AND THE OMEGA, THE ALMIGHTY KING! WE CRY OUT TO YOU AND SAY: 🔊"EVEN SO — COME, LORD JESUS!" I received with profound grief and deep sorrow, the heartbreaking news of the untimely transition to glory of Eng. Anne J. Cheboi, one of the recently appointed members of the PPP Tribunal, following a short illness that she battled with courage. Her untimely demise is a monumental loss to the Public Private Partnerships sector, the Engineering fraternity, and the broader institutional framework supporting infrastructure governance, commercial justice, and investment facilitation within our country. She distinguished herself as an exceptionally energetic, focused, and intellectually astute professional whose commitment to learning, service, and institutional excellence became evident from the very beginning of her tenure. Her engagements consistently reflected diligence, clarity of thought, admirable composure, and a remarkable readiness to deepen her understanding of the evolving PPP ecosystem and its strategic importance to national development. Even within a relatively short period of service, she demonstrated immense promise, professional maturity, and a genuine passion for public duty. She carried herself with grace, discipline, and purpose, while continually exhibiting a collaborative spirit and a deep appreciation of the responsibility entrusted to the Tribunal. Her contribution, presence, and potential had already begun enriching the institution and strengthening confidence in the integrity and effectiveness of PPP dispute resolution mechanisms. Her demise is deeply painful and profoundly unfortunate at a time when her expertise, perspective, and growing contribution to institutional governance within the PPP framework remained greatly needed. It is even more painful that this solemn moment coincides with what would have been her birthday (which is today 23rd May) a day that would ordinarily have been marked with gratitude, celebration, and reflection on a life of purpose and promise. Instead, we mourn the loss of a distinguished professional whose future remained exceptionally bright and impactful. On behalf of the PPP fraternity, I extend my deepest and heartfelt condolences to her family during this period of immense grief and mourning. The loss of a daughter, relative, colleague, mentor, and loved one of such promise and character is a painful burden that words can scarcely ease. May they find comfort in the legacy of professionalism, integrity, humility, and service that she leaves behind, and may they draw strength from the many lives she touched through her dedication and warmth. I equally convey sincere condolences to her colleagues at the PPP Tribunal, the Engineering fraternity, friends, and all those who had the privilege of working alongside her. May her soul rest in eternal peace. Director General, Public Private Partnerships, Eng. Kefa Seda O.

I grew up hearing and researching stories of war and peace-from both sides of the Pacific. On the morning of September 2, 1945, at 9 am, a ceremony was held aboard the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay, where Japan signed the instrument of surrender. The Chinese representative, signing immediately after General MacArthur and Admiral Nimitz, was the third to place his name on the document, marking the formal end of WWII. When the news reached China, the entire nation erupted in celebration. From then on, September 3 became China's V Day-a day that symbolizes the shared honor and triumph of the 57 nations of the Allied coalition. Today, China held a grand commemoration to mark this moment worth remembering. During my studies in the United States, I was often struck by how little people around me knew about China's understanding of WWII. In China, America's wartime support is still remembered-above all the Flying Tigers, who are household names, honored as heroes, and cherished as a symbol of Sino-American friendship. At the same time, I was also surprised that even the most rigorous American history scholars remain largely unaware of China's sacrifices and contributions. One American history professor I deeply respect, who never shied away from criticizing America's own diplomatic flaws, and who has been one of the most important teachers in shaping my understanding of the US, once asked me in puzzlement: "Why does China believe it won WWII? Didn't the United States win the war?" The Allied victory came at a staggering cost to China. It was this cost that earned the deep respect of FDR, as seen in my recent tweets drawing on FDR archives. And it was precisely because of these sacrifices that China was accorded the honor of being the third to sign the surrender instrument on September 2, 1945. My great-grandfather was among the witnesses of that history. As a major general, he led his troops through immense sacrifices to win several hard-fought battles. I once read the memoirs of a veteran who recalled how, during Sunday assemblies of his division, he would often speak about Sino-American relations "in an inspiring way". Over the past decade, I have spent time in the Roosevelt Library in New York, exploring extensive American wartime archives, and I have also met many American veterans and descendants of US generals. As a historian, together with these American friends, I often worry that this once-precious friendship is being forgotten far too quickly in the US. It could remind us that, in the darkest of times, our two nations placed trust in one another and fought side by side. It could serve as a historical foundation for rebuilding mutual understanding and trust between our peoples. It could also provide, amid today's shifting and complicated realities, a shared point of connection across generations. I was originally invited to attend today's events and had my pass prepared, but due to some miscommunication I regrettably missed the chance to be at Tiananmen Square. Nevertheless, I had the privilege of witnessing the grand celebrations of the 70th anniversary of the PRC in 2019, and today, from the balcony of my home, I was still able to catch a glimpse of the festivities at Tiananmen, capturing a few photos and videos as a personal memory. Top left: At the opening, 80 ceremonial cannon shots were fired, symbolizing the 80 years since 1945. Top right: Just before the People's Liberation Army parade on Tiananmen Square, helicopters flew overhead carrying banners that read "Justice will prevail, Peace will prevail, The People will prevail." In the distance, you can see the Forbidden City. Bottom left: Fighter jets passing in formation to receive review. Bottom right: Close the end of the parade, 80,000 doves of peace and 80,000 balloons were released. All balloons are biodegradable. As a descendant of a WWII veteran, as a historian who has studied the WWII extensively, and as a friend to many American WWII veterans and their families, I feel deeply connected to this commemoration. This moment does not belong to China alone-it belongs to all who have fought, hoped and sacrificed for peace. May history never be forgotten, and may peace never be forsaken.

The Satanic Verses Scandal: Muhammad’s Public Praise of Pagan Goddesses and the Birth of Abrogation (619 C.E.) By 619 C.E., Muhammad had preached in Mecca for years with limited results. Families were divided. Tribal leaders remained hostile. The city still controlled the Kaaba and the trade that flowed through it. Under that pressure he delivered one of the most damaging moments in Islamic history. During a public recitation of what became part of Sura 53, he uttered words affirming three of Mecca’s chief goddesses—al-Lat, al-Uzza, and Manat—as exalted beings whose intercession could be hoped for. The early Muslim historians themselves record the incident because it was too widely known to erase. Those words were not a private slip. They were spoken in the hearing of both his followers and his pagan opponents. In that instant the claimed distinction between his allah and the pagan pantheon collapsed. If the god he preached could coexist with three exalted female deities whose mediation mattered, then his earlier denunciations of idolatry were temporary tactics, not fixed truth. Jehovah never shares His glory with idols. A man who praises false gods in the name of the true God fails the biblical test of a prophet. The response was immediate. Muslims and pagans together fell in prostration. Meccan nobles who had resisted him for years now bowed, because in their hearing he had recognized their goddesses. For a brief moment the long conflict appeared resolved. News of the reconciliation reached the refugees in Abyssinia. Some began returning, only to discover that the peace had already shattered. Muhammad soon claimed another visit from Jibril. The spirit, he said, rebuked him: the words about the goddesses had not come from allah. Satan had thrown them onto his tongue. Muhammad admitted that he had recited satanic content as divine revelation. To contain the disaster a new teaching was introduced. Satan, it was claimed, sometimes inserts suggestions into a prophet’s recitation, but allah later cancels those insertions and establishes His own verses. From this patch grew the doctrine of abrogation (Naskh)—the idea that later verses can cancel or override earlier ones. That doctrine is not a sign of divine flexibility. It is a confession that the so-called revelation was unstable and open to satanic interference. Jehovah does not allow the devil to co-author His Word. Deuteronomy is clear: the prophet who speaks in the name of the true God and then leads people after other gods is to be rejected. Muhammad did not submit the episode to the already revealed Scriptures. He created a mechanism that let him erase the damaging lines while preserving his own authority. The reversal produced shock. Meccans felt deceived. Followers who had risked the journey from Abyssinia on false news of peace faced confusion and doubt. Some wavered. The first great apostasy scandal in Islam was caused not by external persecution but by the prophet’s own mouth. Muhammad framed the crisis as a loyalty test. Those who clung to him despite the embarrassment were praised; those who questioned were cast as weak. He never treated the event as grounds to question his prophetic claim. From this point the message hardened. Compromise had threatened his unique status. When he praised the goddesses, Mecca welcomed him as one voice among many. When he reversed and condemned them again, his followers’ loyalty sharpened. The possibility of lasting accommodation with the Meccan establishment shrank. The doctrine of abrogation later supplied the theological tool to cancel gentler Meccan verses in favor of the harsher Medinan commands to fight until religion is for allah alone. The Satanic Verses incident is not a minor embarrassment buried in old books. It is a window into the nature of the movement. A man who publicly praised pagan goddesses as exalted intercessors, then blamed Satan, then invented a system for overwriting his own failures, cannot be a prophet of Jehovah. The true God does not lead His messengers into idolatry, does not permit satanic content in His revelation, and does not authorize the rewriting of earlier words to cover the error. Everything that followed—the hardening, the militancy, the use of abrogation to justify later violence—flows from that first great scandal at the center of Islam’s story. this is a tribute post to share the legacy of an artist whose work has changed my life and inspires me everyday, Jun Seba aka Nujabes. Born February 7, 1974, Nujabes was a music producer & DJ from Tokyo, Japan. He came from a family of music lovers and his father’s admiration for jazz served as an inspiration to Seba at a young age. He pursued his education at a Fine Arts school and the people in his life influenced him to explore the vast wonders of what music really is. In a 2003 interview with Sound & Recording Magazine, Seba said… “I started making tracks because I wanted to hear music that sampled the old soul and jazz I liked.” Nujabes in his early years discovered Hip-Hop and was enamored by the art of DJ-ing and breakdancing. Hip-Hop culture was being brought to life in the USA, but its influence seeped across the world and it started to gain popularity in Japan at the time as well. Seba went on to become a crucial figure in Japan’s underground Hip-Hop scene as a DJ, co-creating a label called ‘Hydeout Productions’. His love for music stemmed beyond just creating it. He had his own record store, which he spoke about in the aforementioned 2003 interview. “I recently started up a record store, Tribe, which I see as an extension of Hydeout Productions. Everything at the store is stuff I went and bought overseas myself, and my hope is for people to come in, listen to old records at their leisure, and hopefully feel inspired by those records to make good tracks themselves. That’s another thing I would like to cherish doing in the future—creating those sorts of encouraging environment” This was a genuine testament to the pure love Nujabes had for music and the community that is built as a result. This passion is what fueled the masterpieces we listen to today and it is the reason for him revolutionizing Hip-Hop production. One of his greatest achievements, in my opinion, was his contribution to the soundtrack of ‘Samurai Champloo’ alongside Fat Jon. This soundtrack set Nujabes on center stage. With a fusion of traditional Japanese musical influences, everything he learned as a student of Hip-Hop, and his early love for Jazz music, Nujabes created a new soundscape which set the tone for this acclaimed show, but also epitomized his brilliance as a musician. At a recent Nujabes tribute performance, longtime collaborator and a friend of Nujabes, Fat Jon, said a few words about him… “Our friendship went beyond music. And so yeah, we had fun making music, but we had more fun just doing regular shit in life… Nujabes as a person, separated from the music, he was a cool person.” You can tell everyone that has worked with or around Nujabes has a deep, unwavering admiration for him as a musician, but also as a person and a friend. Although his contributions to the soundtrack shot Nujabes to fame, his discography of solo music is what cemented his legacy as a pioneer of modern music. From his debut ‘Metaphorical Music’, to his most critically acclaimed work ‘Modal Soul’, Nujabes was able to create entire soundscapes by blending all the different things that made him love music in the first place. It would be a disservice to not mention his friends and frequent collaborators who had invaluable contributions to his work. Shing02, Uyama Hiroto, Cise Starr & Akin (CYNE), Substantial, Haruka Nakamura, and many more. (I’d love to give recommendations to people who want to dive into their work after seeing this!) Nujabes music heavily centered around jazz and soul samples intertwined with his intricate drum patterns and tranquil instrumentation. He fostered an atmosphere of serenity with his melodies than touched the hearts of millions around the world. From ethereal tracks like “Horizon” and “Counting Stars” to his Luv(Sic) series, Nujabes created art that transcended the preconceptions of what music’s impact is. if you made it this far, thank you for reading. i have no more characters left lol
