the solution: > vit integrates version control directly into davinci resolve > just start from a common base video, and lightweight metadata changes are tracked > you can then merge these changes at the end

usage (1): > open vit through davinci studio workspace scripts > add a file and commit it > switch branches + make changes

usage (2): > switch to another branch (i.e. main) and make more changes > commit those as well

usage (3): > merge the changes :)

more features: > commit history graph > CLI + GUI support > files are kept locally > logging and ai powered assistance if there are merge conflicts

Version control for video is something editors have needed forever. Branching timelines, non-destructive edits, rollback without losing hours of work — if this actually works the way git does for code, it's a game changer. What's the collaboration workflow like?

you start with a central base file and json (for shared collaboration one person makes that vit project and connects it to a github repo) and then from there any changes you make can be tracked and then pushed onto separate branches + merging

Ok like sure this is neat… but we have years of post production pipelines that work perfectly fine without having to ham-fist toxic tech bro “agile” workflow into an already solved system. You don’t have to treat post production like product development… this is why there’s the “waterfall” project management process.

that's true, things have found a way to work out in the past but there's no reason not to at least try something or make something like this for fun, worst comes to worst you can not use it but we just wanted to make something we thought would be cool and ppl could benfefit from lol

Totally! I think you’re on the right track with how you identified the bottlenecks in modern post production pipelines. These things are regular snags when you’re trying to pump out product demos, vis and explainers. This idea has legs if you can tweak the mentality / use case a bit to feel more native to the steadfast processes professionals are used to. I’ve worked in post production for 10+years, my DM’s are open. There’s 100% a need for a solution here for efficiency and modern workflow but I challenge you to approach it less like a developer and more like a post production creative.

Would it work for large videos? As in syncing files across different machines?

you would need to start with the same base file (i.e. each person creates their own base project from it) because we don't store videos, we just track all the changes you make across a video
