GOOSEBUMPS. In 1992, during the Springboks' first match after readmission to international rugby, against the All Blacks in South Africa. The African National Congress (ANC) had requested that "Die Stem," the national anthem, not be played or sung and that the old South African flag not be displayed, as part of conditions for allowing the match to proceed. Despite this, the South African Rugby Football Union (SARFU) ignored the request, and "Die Stem" was sung by fans, with old flags waved, causing significant controversy. THIS IS OUR CULTURAL STRUGGLE SONG AND WE WILL SING IT WHEN WE PLEASE. ONS VIR JOU.
