'We just literally can’t afford it... It’s just basically simple maths.' Spectator’s Michael Simmons says too many pensioners, not enough taxpayers — and the welfare model is broken.

We can afford decent pensions if we strip government down to the bare minimum. Why are we sending money to Mauritius? Why are we funding overseas aid? Why are we still paying money to the EU? Why are we paying benefits to non citizens? Why are we treating non citizens on the NHS? Why do we have a government department of Culture, or of Equalities, or of Net Zero? Why are we constantly funding foreign wars in which we have no stake? Why is the public sector so expensive and so inefficient? Why do we tax business and individuals so much that they take their wealth abroad?

Why does labour want to spend money on illegal immigrants and not help British citizens?

The solution is to deport all the illegals then we can afford it. The people born in this country should come first always!

Too much Government. Too many foreigners on benefits and freebies. Too many socialists with their hands in taxpayers pockets. Stop blaming pensioners, the workers of Britain and those that are unemployed beccuase of the damaging economics of the political class!

if we can afford to give money to everyone around the world, if we can afford benefits for millions of foreign scroungers, if we can afford billions for illegals, then we can take care of our pensioners.

Too many immigrants claiming benefits for their entire lives in this country!

I can never understand why pensioners are always brought into the conversation when people talk about affordability! There are 4 million citizens claiming sickness benefit, 1 million immigrants claiming benefits,7.5 million claiming Universal credit and lo and behold, here we are talking about OAPs who have worked all their lives paying tax to get 250 quid a week!

Well if that’s unaffordable, how can we afford to spend £12bn a year on universal credit for foreign born folk, people that didn’t contribute to the growth of the country? Or £4.7bn and rising to house blokes that got escorted in on dinghies? Can we afford the escalating cost of crime? Half a billion a year on prison places for our ‘visitors’ or cultural decline? Affordability seems to be a choice. When this 👆 is sorted, perhaps conversations around what else is affordable huh?
