Hate crimes in NYC are up over 70% under Mayor Mamdani — with a disturbing spike in antisemitic attacks. According to the latest NYPD stats: 68 confirmed hate crimes last month vs. 39 a year ago. Of those, 41 were antisemitic (up from 24) — a 70%+ jump in crimes targeting Jewish New Yorkers. Antisemitic graffiti has also been popping up in increasing amounts across the city, in addition to the surge in antisemitic protests. While overall crime is down, this specific hatred continues to escalate. Critics say Mamdani’s rhetoric and policies are fueling the problem. I strongly condemn all antisemitic violence, protests, and graffiti. Jewish New Yorkers deserve to feel safe in their own city. Mamdani is failing to keep them safe and protected from persecution. This afternoon, in honour of #NelsonMandelaDay, we gifted visually impaired residents of Ga-Rankuwa with blankets. The residents are members of the Ikageng Self-Help Association of the Blind. We chose Ikageng because of the important work the organisation provides to vulnerable members of our community. Ikageng helps keep its members active and educated. In addition to the blankets we’ve donated today, we will be assisting the organisation to rebuild its garden so that the community can benefit from the vegetables and fruits grown from this yard.
