Today Lydia † 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 and myself met with the Victims Minister and the Victims’ Commissioner for England and Wales to discuss how we can improve the criminal justice system across the country. We spoke about the need for law reform, better support for survivors, research into the experiences and needs of children born as a result of rape, and improved training for the professionals who work with them. We also discussed the urgent need to improve the housing system to ensure survivors are safe and properly supported. The Government must also begin holding professionals to account for the negligence and corruption that has failed victims across the UK. Survivors deserve justice, accountability, and meaningful change, not just promises.

Thanks to the Rachel Maddow for having me on tonight to highlight how ICE is terrorizing our community in Salt Lake City and across the country. We need leaders who will stand up for our immigrant communities, listen to them, and take on the authoritarians like Trump who think they can get away with these atrocities. We don’t need more status-quo politicians like my opponent, Ben McAdams, who has been bought-and-paid for by the private prison industry and ICE contractors. This new DHS facility (internment camp) moved forward without any community input. That’s not how democracy should work. We need systems rooted in compassion that create real pathways to citizenship, we need to abolish ICE and prosecute the folks responsible. The agency should lose any social license to operate for tearing families apart in our streets.

Friends can be competitors, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and I agreed today as he called me so we could, among other matters, exchange well wishes ahead of South Africa’s knockout #fifaworldcup match against Canada in Los Angeles tomorrow night. Mark Carney and I work together very well on many issues in our bilateral relations and in our roles in the international community but we’ve agreed to disagree on proceedings tomorrow night. Like all South Africans, I look forward to our Boys dazzling and defeating the Canadians en route to the last 16. EU foreign ministers are planning to discuss the possibility of engaging in direct talks with Russia when they meet later this month - Kaja Kallas "Before we discuss with Russia, we should discuss amongst ourselves what we want to talk to them about, and that is why we have Gymnich meeting coming with the Foreign Ministers."
