Galangal is also called Siamese Ginger or Thai Ginger Many people confuse fresh ginger for galangal because they are both aromatic rhizomes with a similar shape. If you put them side by side you can see that galangal is smoother and paler than ginger. It also doesn't have much of a skin and you don't even need to peel it. Ginger has a hot and spicy flavour, while galangal has a cooling, refreshing aroma. But let the gullible Nigerians run with fake content and say it is GMO Everything is GMO to you guys. The comment section is so disheartening - I mean how can we all be this gullible 😭

There are different types of root herbs she seems to have bought galangal or yanaka shoga, which can be mistaken for ginger. Nigeria really needs to reintroduce education as a lot of people (older adults included) are lacking it a great deal.

Let me explain. The local ginger we have is the Zingiber officinale var. rubrum. But this other one is not fake. It's just another cultivar. A Chinese one. Full name: Zingiber officinale Roscoe ‘Chinese Yellow’. It is bred more for precessing than outright consumption.

Mama in as much as I understand that ginger is pretty much expensive, that's not wood, it is pure ginger , it's another species, this particular one is not hot at all, rather it has a bitter taste and the said is actually off, but still ginger, I have it here in my backyard 😂

Aunty that's ginger . The reason is that way is because it was well fertilized. I grow a lot of gingers in my place and is exactly like this and some are bigger than this

I've bought this smelly rubbish a few times in the market. Bitter, smelly, not spicy, guess it's called galangal or something but most def not ginger. Bought powder ginger too, found out it was this same rubbish thing grounded. Now I peel my fresh ginger and taste before buying.

Ginger is actually scarce in the market right now and very expensive as well. Something isn't right. Whatever Government Institution we have to put these fake products in check should start work immediately o! I can't be afraid of insecurities and fake food in the market too na!

Well in 2020, I did small farming and this what my ginger looked like, it was also bitter when tested with the tongue, so we concluded that it was the soil that changed it, maybe it was not compatible with soil, it was a bountiful harvest but useless.
