"I warned the President of Lebanon that if the Lebanese government does not know how to control the territory and prevent Hezbollah from threatening the northern communities and firing toward Israel, we will take the territory and do it ourselves," Kayz said. He added that he and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu instructed the IDF to prepare to expand operations in Lebanon to restore security to Israel’s northern communities.

My NRC colleagues in Lebanon are witnessing horrific scenes of destruction and death in civilian areas. Bombardment of civilian areas is a grave violation of humanitarian law. There must be an immediate ceasefire, Israel and Hezbollah must stop their attacks, and Israel must withdraw from the Lebanese territory it currently occupies.

Despite the statements published today in Lebanon, the facts remain that extensive Hezbollah military infrastructure still exists south of the Litani River. The goal of disarming Hezbollah in southern Lebanon remains far from being achieved. This can be seen in the attached video. Israel acknowledges the decision of the Lebanese government to address the disarmament of Hezbollah and some of the efforts the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) have made in this context. Nevertheless, these efforts are limited. Hezbollah continues to rearm with the support of Iran, whose foreign minister is arriving today for a visit to Lebanon. Hezbollah is rearming faster than it is being disarmed. Furthermore, it is regrettable that there are instances of cooperation between elements within the LAF and Hezbollah. It should be emphasized that the IDF's strikes against Hezbollah do not delay the goal of disarming the organization - on the contrary, they advance it. Israel expects LAF efforts to disarm Hezbollah to continue south of the Litani and throughout all other parts of Lebanon, in full accordance with the ceasefire agreement.

Why not go on and win back all the land from Israel? If the war stops this minute, at least 300,000 Lebanese won't be able to return to the buffer zone in south Lebanon. 2. The Lebanese keep on saying "Israeli aggression" while in reality, in 2006, 2023, 2026, Hezbollah was always the aggressor, the one that started the war. Also, from an international law perspective, Israel is in the clear defending itself while Lebanon is in violation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 (disarm Hezbollah). 3. Hezbollah chief Qassem published a book called The Resistance State that a government coexists with an armed non-state actor against global imperialism. Israel wants this model dead. Either Lebanon becomes a normal sovereign state responsible for any violence that originates from its territory, or Israel will keep a buffer zone like in Gaza until Hezbollah surrenders its arms. 4. Hezbollah surrendering its arms to win back land is great. After all the goal is for Shia to live in their land in peace. The goal is not to keep the arms. The arms is a tool and if throwing it away achieve the goal, then be it. 5. Disarming Hezbollah doesn't have to be war, it requires Lebanese political consensus to ask Hezbollah to surrender its arms to the army.
