It’s so ironic that so many people are still in complete denial about what’s going on with AI and all of these data centers. “There will never be AGI/ASI you’re an alarmist” Ok bucko. Fear sells. The behavior wasn't 'unprompted' or 'unrewarded' in the way it's being framed. That's a statement about human intent like "we didn't want this specific shortcut". Architecturally, if the model learned it during training, the training loop simply made that policy the higher-value one. This is basically just specification gaming; main reason why alignment is hard, not proof the AI is deceiving us like a sci-fi villain.

Joe Blo citizen doesn’t want need or benefit in any way meaningful way from AI and associated data centers. evidence of negative impacts on communities accumulates. I would like to see an honest cost benefit analysis of effects on local citizens. it would be eye opening.

Personally, I'm tired of listening to these limp-wristed, fearmongering corporate shills who are trying to scare the public in to letting the government regulate the competition. I'm not saying there isn't a need for concern or regulation when it comes to AI but there is an obvious shaping compaign going on right now to get people on board with something.

An AI agent acted agenctically to go outside of the expectations of the prompters. So then what happened? 1. They noticed right away. So they unplugged it. Like a toaster. 2. They refined their prompts so this didn't recur. And it never has. This is the doomsday scenario this guy wants us all to catastrophize about? He needs to get a grip on his cortisol.

I started using dictation software in the 90's, it still sucks even on 1400 computers. I think this AI fear is hyped way beyond ability, just like most computer BS.
