Attempts to reach a global agreement on tackling plastic pollution could reach a crucial stage today, after years of deadlock. Countries are gathering in Geneva for a 10 day conference, which many people believe will be the last chance to achieve a legally-binding deal, to stop plastics polluting the planet for good. michelle morrison has the latest.

The majority of UN states support a legally binding treaty on autonomous weapons to prohibit the most unpredictable and dangerous, and regulate those that can be used with meaningful human control. Will your country support legally-binding rules on autonomous weapons systems?

Off the coast of S Korea, where #PlasticsTreaty talks are at a critical stage, Greenpeace International activists board a tanker carrying toxic chemicals for plastic production. We need a strong Global Plastics Treaty now, which seriously cuts plastic production

After 11 days of negotiations in Geneva, countries failed to reach agreement on a global plastics treaty. Disputes over production caps and chemical controls remain unresolved.

Plastics are everywhere – in the air we breathe, the food we eat and the water we drink. Toxic substances leach into our bodies. It’s happening all around the world. The solution? A Global Treaty to #StopPlasticPollution. RT to urge leaders to act now! #inc5 #banit

LIBS FURTHER RISK PROPERTY RIGHTS W/ NEW TREATY 🚨🚨🚨 Carney Libs are signing agreements that FURTHER RISK YOUR HOME & PROPERTY. Libs are set to ratify a NEW treaty — one that says UNDRIP is the authoritative source of ALL its interpretations. Carney Libs would elevate UNDRIP from policy commitment to LEGALLY BINDING guidelines threatening your home & resource projects further.

Crypto is a transformational technology. But we can’t expect to change consumer behavior or habits. We need to go meet users where they are and make crypto invisible to accelerate mass adoption Here’s a glimpse of my talk yesterday Solana Conference

JEFFRIES: "Kristi Noem has been fired, consistent with what we have demanded on behalf of the American people. But let me also make clear, a change in personnel is not sufficient. We need a change in policy, and that has to be bold, dramatic, transformational and meaningful."

In Geneva, negotiators from 175 nations are trying to hammer out the first-ever legally binding treaty on plastic pollution. The key sticking point is whether it should mandate cuts in plastic production. Oil-producing nations — including the United States — oppose that, as fossil fuels are a key ingredient in plastics. The urgency of the talks was underscored this week by a new study published in The Lancet medical journal. It calls plastics a “grave, growing and under-recognized danger to human and planetary health.” John Yang spoke with Tracey Woodruff, PhD, MPH, one of the authors of the study, for more.
