TOTAL DOUBLE STANDARD: Today, Harvard President Alan Garber criticized the Trump Administration's policies against foreign students. "Harvard is not Harvard without its international students." Yet less than 20 minutes later, he rewarded an honorary Harvard degree to Elaine Kim, an endorser of the U.S. Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel, which seeks to BAN ISRAELI STUDENTS FROM ALL UNIVERSITIES. Moreover, Garber has yet to explain why Jewish Americans went from 25% to 4% of Harvard's population, whilst non American foreign students went from 4% to 30%. If Harvard cares about international students, why give a highly selective honorary degree to someone who wants to ban Israelis? Israel is an American ally. Harvard is not.

I was invited to the United Nations to talk about Iran, especially about athletes and the current situation in Iran. I spoke to more than 4,000 students from around the world. I told them about Iran and about all the limitations that women and girls face there. I talked about the courage of students in Iran and about a regime that kills students. I told them that in my country the new generation is changing everything, but they are paying for it with their lives. While I was speaking, my mind was constantly thinking about Nika, Sarina, Raha, Abolfazl, Kian and the many students who were killed. I was just trying to control myself so I wouldn’t start crying. I also told them how meaningful it is that students from different countries, at such a young age, have the opportunity to come to New York and sit together at the United Nations, meet each other, learn together, and also enjoy many cultural and recreational programs. I told them the stories of Arnika and Rebin & … After the event, the organizers told me it was the first time they had seen students listening so carefully and with so much attention. Some of the students were even crying. I told them that one day, when Iran is free, we will organize an event like this in Iran with students from all over the world, and we will host them there. Some of them told me, “When that day comes, we will bring flowers for the students who were killed and we will honor their memory.”💔 I had the honor of meeting Vladyslav Heraskevych OLY, the Ukrainian Olympic champion, who chose not to remain silent and used his platform as an athlete to be a voice for the people of his country. Who gives permission to Outsiders (Bajrang Dal members) to get inside the Hostel premises? Especially late in the night inside A-Block which is dedicated to International Students? Who are Bajrang Dal members to check on what students are doing inside their hostel block? Many RW supporters on social media are claiming that the students were offering Namaz in open public space without permission. No. These students were offering Taraweeh Namaz at around 10 PM inside the Hostel compound of A-Block which has 75 foreign students staying in the hostel. In the Spring, Jonathan had his Israeli and American flag stolen by fellow students at Columbia University. Last month, Jonathan was punched in the face by another pro-Palestinian masked classmate on campus. Today, Jonathan was barred from entering class as masked vandals rioted inside the building, calling for an intifada. Of the dozens of masked vandals, all were allowed to peacefully exit at 10:30, facing zero disciplinary consequences. Jonathan has had his property stolen, been physically assaulted, and denied entry to class. Jewish American students across the country are united in our call: #JusticeforJonathan. In Aug 2025, Elsa Johnson, a Stanford student, wrote a piece for The Times about how members of the CCP tried to recruit her as a spy. Since then, the junior, who is majoring in East Asian Studies, has faced a wave of harassment from Mandarin speakers who have called her and threatened her and her family. The FBI also informed Johnson that the CCP is physically monitoring her whereabouts on campus — making her fear for her own safety. On Mar 26 she testified before the House Committee on Education and the Workforce, urging Congress to do something to protect America’s students who “face transnational repression”, given that Stanford “has chosen not to address this problem at all”. Here is an abridged and lightly edited version of her testimony. ======= After I wrote a first-person account of my experience in The Times of London, the repression only worsened. Last summer, while conducting research on China in Washington, DC, I began receiving regular phone calls from unknown US numbers. When I answered the calls in English, the callers would switch to Mandarin. In one case, the caller referenced my mother. These bizarre calls were intimidation attempts, designed to remind me that neither my family, nor I, is safe from transnational repression by the CCP. Then, this past fall, the FBI informed me that I am being physically monitored on Stanford’s campus by agents of the Chinese Communist Party. They told me that my family is also at risk and is being monitored. As a 21-year-old who grew up loving the Chinese language and culture, I never imagined that studying it would put me in a position where a foreign intelligence service is tracking my movements on my own campus and monitoring my family. I fear for my safety and for my family’s safety. The intimidation calls have not stopped. Just this week, I received another call from a US number. After exchanging hellos, the caller switched to Mandarin and asked whether I had finished dinner. That cannot be a coincidence. It is happening to me on American soil because I reported on the activities of a foreign government at an American university. My experience is disturbing, but it reflects a much larger pattern playing out on campuses across the country. According to Freedom House, the Chinese government is the greatest perpetrator of transnational repression targeting students and scholars in the United States. Their 2024 report found that international students and faculty face surveillance and coercion by foreign governments. More than 1.3 million international students study at American colleges and universities, yet many are unable to exercise the freedoms that are supposed to define an American education. There is also infrastructure already embedded on American campuses that facilitates this system. Chinese Students and Scholars Associations (CSSAs) exist at roughly 150 American colleges and universities, including Stanford. The US State Department has stated plainly that the CCP created the CSSA to monitor Chinese students and mobilize them against views that dissent from the Party’s stance. The US-China Economic and Security Review Commission found in 2018 that CSSAs receive guidance from the CCP through Chinese embassies and consulates, and that they are active in carrying out work consistent with Beijing’s United Front strategy. In some cases, the local Chinese consulate must approve CSSA presidential candidates. Documents obtained by Foreign Policy showed that at Georgetown, the CSSA accepted embassy funding amounting to roughly half its total annual budget. The Association of Chinese Students and Scholars at Stanford, or ACSSS, is a recognized student organisation that receives university support and funding. The CCP’s United Front uses these organisations as vehicles for surveillance and influence. American universities are supposed to be places where people can think and speak freely. Right now, for too many students, they are not.

It has been an amazing journey for me to accept the role of Pro Chancellor of Albukhary International University. The convocation ceremony today showed me the true essence of what the university is about in uplifting students from unprivileged backgrounds and giving them an opportunity at the very critical point in their lives through higher education. These students with the blessing of the Almighty will go on to become leaders of the future and role models for society. I had the honour of awarding each and every of the 218 graduating students and excited to watch them grow into the future society that we leave behind.

Ohio House just passed S.B.1 —forbids colleges from teaching historic events like slavery or Holocaust definitely did happen. Mandates that students "reach their own conclusions about all controversial events." "They say Nazis should be taught from 'both sides' which is insane and very fascist," said one of the college students protesting the bill. The bill also prohibits universities from taking positions on a "controversial belief or policy." Defined as climate policies, politics, foreign policy, DEI programs, immigration policy, marriage, abortion, or "any belief or policy that is the subject of political controversy." Ohio House just passed S.B.1 —forbids colleges from teaching historic events like slavery or Holocaust definitely did happen. Mandates that students "reach their own conclusions about all controversial events." "They say Nazis should be taught from 'both sides' which is insane and very fascist," said one of the college students protesting the bill. The bill also prohibits universities from taking positions on a "controversial belief or policy." Defined as climate policies, politics, foreign policy, DEI programs, immigration policy, marriage, abortion, or "any belief or policy that is the subject of political controversy." Free speech is under attack on university campuses across the country. We want to change that. The Free Speech Union administers the Ian Mactaggart Programme, which helps young people — especially students — promote and defend free speech. While we are witnessing a toxic culture of censorship on campus, with students ostracised or hounded out for holding and expressing lawful beliefs, there is also a growing determination to keep open debate alive. The programme supports more than 16 societies across the UK, as well as groups that have launched podcasts and organised conferences. FSU Education Officer Vinay Kapoor has been travelling across the country to meet students who are standing up for free speech on campus.
