Ten days into our 39-day FIFA World Cup 26 Philadelphia™ Fan Festival, I found myself standing on Lemon Hill looking out at 15,000 fans from around the world and thinking: this is exactly what we hoped this moment would feel like. Families. Neighbors. Visitors. Flags from every corner of the globe. All gathered together right here in Philadelphia. In this historic year, as we celebrate 250 years of democracy, we made a commitment to create a space where everyone could be part of the experience. No ticket required. No barriers to entry. Just community, culture, and connection. Making this experience free for all 39 days of the tournament was a deliberate choice. We wanted every resident, every family, and every visitor to have the opportunity to be part of this moment. My thanks to the hundreds of employees, volunteers, and partners who made today possible, including the teams at Philadelphia Parks & Recreation, Philadelphia OEM, Philadelphia Police Department, Philadelphia Fire, Philadelphia Department of Streets, Philadelphia Public Health, Philly311, ISEPTAPHILLY, and PHL Office of Special Events. Together, they turned Lemon Hill into a world-class gathering place for fans from around the globe. Today was Philadelphia at its best: welcoming, diverse, joyful, and proud. One last point from Pope Leo’s letter to us: he talks about the reasons to thank God for the United States of America, and the last one he mentions is unity. We are a nation that has always tried to stay together. Diversity? You bet. Disagreement? You bet! Sometimes heated debate. But we always are one nation under God! In June of 2022, I stood in Love Park with hundreds of other Philadelphians anxiously waiting and hoping for FIFA President, Gianni Infantino to announce Philadelphia as one of the cities selected to host the 2026 World Cup. And when it was finally announced, the excitement for our city was palpable I went home and promised myself that no matter what, I’d be in attendance for one of the matches held in Philadelphia 4 years later Since then I’ve attended and covered countless press conferences, written thousands of words for articles, and delivered as much info as I possibly could about the World Cup and all the planning around it to keep the residents of Philadelphia as informed as possible And now tomorrow, almost exactly 4 years later, I’ll be inside the stadium with media credentials to cover the first game of the 2026 World Cup in Philadelphia for Philly Sports Network and MetroPhilly To say I’m honored and grateful would be an understatement. So excited for the opportunity. What a wild 4 years it’s been⚽️🏆🏟️

We’ve all seen safety issues as we travel across the City, so it is our responsibility to raise awareness that vehicles obstructing bike lanes create dangerous conflicts for cyclists. Passing this legislation to reclassify 35 miles of curbside lanes to “No Stopping Anytime” zones is only the beginning of our vision to protect our cyclists and pedestrians, and finally address these dangerous issues plaguing our City. Thank you to Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia and Philly Bike Action! for their advocacy on this issue, to Kenyatta Johnson and Councilmember Jamie Gauthier for introducing this legislation and expanding on my commitment to make Philadelphia the Safest, Cleanest, and Greenest Big City with Access to Economic Opportunity for All.
