We Own the Night finds Robert Duvall essentially serving as mediator between Joaquin Phoenix & Mark Wahlberg and Duvall is outstanding. This film has its flaws & doesn’t reach its full potential, but Duvall crushes every moment he has on screen. This is absolutely worth visiting.

Robert Duvall & Jeff Bridges each own #Oscars for Best Actor. Bridges won his here in Crazy Heart. Duvall’s not in this film much but this scene jumped out to me the moment I first saw this in theaters. This is a special scene between two special actors. I’m thankful for Duvall.

Robert Duvall is so damn good in Open Range- he is so damn good. I’ve never met anyone who dislikes this film. Duvall & Kevin Costner absolutely bring the thunder in this film in a throwback Western that is so rewatchable. This might be what I rewatch tonight in Duvall’s honor.

Francis Ford Coppola’s The Conversation is one of Harrison Ford’s first on-screen roles. Harrison isn’t in this film long but it’s just one of countless reasons I love this movie so much. Between Hackman, Ford, and Robert Duvall, this film’s leading men are all outstanding.

Robert Duvall earned an #Oscar nomination for The Apostle & it’s one of the best performances of Duvall’s entire career. I think this entire movie is incredibly underrated because the story here is really simple but really interesting. Duvall does everything right in this film.

Al Pacino & Robert Duvall say so much with just their eyes. This scene in The Godfather Part 2 is one of my favorite scenes in film history. Some of Pacino’s best scenes as Michael Corleone were shared with Duvall. Duvall was so greatly missed in the third Godfather. Two icons.

The Paper is a great Robert Duvall film. Directed by Ron Howard, this film tells the story of New York City tabloid newspaper, in which Duvall is the man in charge. The entire cast here is loaded & it’s definitely one of Ron Howard’s better films. We don’t get films like this now

Robert Duvall is on AFI’s Top 100 Films six times. That’s the most of any actor. Ever. Period. Probably because Duvall’s intensity can’t be replicated. When this guy showed up in a film, he brought it all- and then some. I love Duvall as much as any actor in film history. A king.

Robert Redford & Robert Duvall are both gone. This scene in The Natural…man, it’s hard not to get emotional. Rewatching this film takes on a new meaning now. The world could collapse tomorrow, but at least we’ll still have this film. I’m grateful as hell these two made movies.

The Place Beyond The Pines is such a beautiful film- nearly every frame in this movie is picturesque. Culturally, I think this film flies under the radar a little, which might be because this is a long movie that meanders a little in the last third. But this film absolutely has its moments- including the very real on-screen chemistry between Ryan Gosling & Eva Mendes.
