Yoga and improved skin health and hair growth? India’s pseudoscience poster boy, Ranveer, aka Beerbiceps gets it embarrassingly wrong. Let us break it down. I am sorry this is lengthy, because – as per Brandolini's Law (aka the Bullshit Asymmetry Principle): It takes a lot more energy to refute bullshit than to produce it. Check out this video. In it, Ranveer “pseudoscience peddler” Allahbadia with over 8 million followers on YouTube and Instagram bullshits everyone in just 35 seconds. He showcases some major female movie celebrities and tells the viewers that the secret to their skin and hair is that they perform Yoga every day, especially a Yoga pose called the “Sarvangasana” or shoulder-stand or candle pose. His “scientific” explanation? The stance increases blood flow the scalp and head, and improves skin health and hair growth. This is utter nonsense. What happens to the blood flow, heart, head, and brain region when someone takes an upside-down stance? For that, you must know the meaning of one word – Homeostasis. Homeostasis is a self-regulating process by which human body maintains internal stability in its organ functions while adjusting to changing external conditions. This is also consists of “autoregulation,” the method by which an organ or tissue maintains blood flow despite a change in perfusion due to external (eg: body position changes) or internal (block in blood vessels) conditions. For example, we are normally supposed to walk on two legs or rest by sitting down or lying down. The heart rate, blood flow to all organs including scalp and brain is all maintained depending on the importance and metabolic activity of that organ. For example, at rest, highest proportion of blood flow is received by the liver (nearly 25% of cardiac output) which is 100ml/min per 100g liver weight. The brain receives 50ml/min per 100g weight, while the skin receives 1 to 3ml per 100g per minute. Organ tissues are usually considered as blood supply-dependent (e.g., heart and brain) and blood supply-independent (e.g., abdominal organs, kidneys, skin, and resting muscle) for oxygen delivery – meaning the latter WILL receive fixed amounts to maintain its functioning while the former requires changes to blood flow depending on various unusual situations. For example, in massive blood loss, the body will try to maintain blood flow into heart and brain rather than skin and muscle to maintain life. The blood flow is set in the body for proper functioning of organs and every time we try to change that flow, a healthy body will re-align that flow depending on the importance of the organ systems functions. So, when you do a shoulder stand or candle pose, the initial sudden change to the body position will be caught by the receptors in the blood vessels and heart which will re-align the flow to organs of importance, thereby maintaining critical functions that are required for health. Which means, the blood flow to the skin including the scalp, will be re-aligned to its required flow and DOES NOT increase to face and scalp or brain as India’s pseudoscience peddler mentions. In heavy aerobic exercise and changes to temperature related sweating or certain disease conditions, the skin blood can increase. Yoga is not a proper exercise as it is not an aerobic activity. Now Sarvangasana and blood flow – a study showed that heart and blood flow responses were NOT AFFECTED with this pose in healthy people. Even a complete head stand, called Sirsasana does not increase blood flow to the brain, forget the scalp skin, because of blood delivery homeostasis due to autoregulatory mechanisms. The claims for effects of Yoga on specific organs are complete bluff – a public duping started by B K S Iyengar who took Yoga to the international stage. Even in his authoritative books, he does not mention shoulder stand or candle pose to be useful for hair growth. In fact, he [nonsensically] mentions that shoulder stand will improve “thyroid health” (it does not), controls asthma (it does not), reduces disease of the throat (it does not) and prevents common cold (it does not, because common cold is caused by a virus, and not dependent on whether you stand, sit, lie down, and hang yourself upside down). Also, note that Sarvangasana (shoulder stand), Sirsasana (head stand) and Padmasana (lotus position) are the most common Yoga poses reported to cause an injury. In those with high blood pressure or heart disease, these poses may become life threatening. A lot of pseudoscience peddlers who sympathize with Yoga will mislead you with many such magical benefits. So then, what specific exercise or action improves hair growth? We do not really know. 📢📢 𝐀𝐯𝐚𝐭𝟑𝐫 📢📢 Avat3r creates high-quality 3D head avatars from just a few input images in a single forward pass with a new dynamic 3DGS reconstruction model. Video: Project: Our core idea is to make Gaussian Reconstruction Models animatable. We find that a simple cross-attention to an expression code sequence is already sufficient to model complex facial expressions. We then incorporate position maps from DUSt3R and feature maps from Sapiens to facilitate the prediction task. While DUSt3R's position maps act as a pixel-aligned initialization for the Gaussians' positions, the Sapiens feature maps help the cross-view transformer to match corresponding image tokens in the 4 input images. One major challenge in creating a 3D head avatar from smartphone images comes from inconsistent facial expressions when the subject could not remain perfectly static during the capture. We eliminate this static requirement by simply showing our model input images with different facial expressions during training. This technique makes our model robust to inconsistent input images later on. Finally, we show that despite the model has been trained with 4 input images, one can even create a 3D head avatar when only a single image is available. To achieve this, we employ a pre-trained 3D GAN to lift the single image to 3D and then render the 4 input images for our model. This allows us to create 3D head avatars from single images and even highly out-of-distribution examples like AI generated faces, paintings or statues. Today I tried VR sim racing for the first time and it completely blew my mind 🔥 After just a few minutes I basically disappeared from my studio and got fully immersed in racing. VR lets you visually sit inside the car, and with the wheel and pedals you actually feel like you’re driving it. At first you’re mostly learning the car and the track. Remembering where to brake, where you can push the speed, how the corners flow. You slowly start to understand the car, feel its limits, and figure out what it’s capable of. That’s so cool. After about 2 hours things slowly started to come together. That feeling when you nail a corner is incredibly satisfying. And when you hit 300 km/h in an F1 car, it looks and feels insane. Honestly this was one of the coolest tech experiences I’ve had in a long time. VR + sim racing hardware is on another level. If you’re into cars, gaming, or VR, I highly recommend trying it at least once.

currently experimenting with WAN 2.6 I2V on GMI Cloud in this test, I’m comparing two audio workflows and honestly both perform really well. one scene uses audio generated directly from the prompt, while the other uses manually uploaded audio taken from the film 300. visually, both deliver strong motion and solid performance. however, the version with audio coming straight from the prompt feels slightly more refined, camera movement is smoother, transitions flow more naturally and the sync between voice, facial motion, and pacing feels more cohesive. lip sync, especially for Chinese dialogue also comes across a bit cleaner. you can choose single shot for a clean, focused moment or multi shot if you want more cinematic transitions, even when working from just one reference image. one important note: always turn on prompt extension. it makes a noticeable difference in how well the model understands motion, transitions and overall scene flow. both audio approaches are totally usable, but if you’re building dialogue driven or cinematic scenes, starting with audio from the prompt gives WAN 2.6 a bit more context to work with. Should the global tech community continue investing in Malaysia? Given recent events, I raise this question respectfully for the consideration of Prime Minister Yang Amat Berhormat Dato’ Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim (Anwar Ibrahim), for the people of Malaysia, and for our friends in the Malaysian tech community. The answer will be of interest to anyone in global tech that’s considering building, investing, or expanding in Malaysia, including executives at Google, Amazon, Apple, and Microsoft, founders of tech unicorns like Coinbase and Solana, and investors at the world’s largest venture capital funds like a16z and Polychain. As context, I am the former CTO of Coinbase and former General Partner at a16z. In October 2024, I opened a startup society called Network School in Malaysia, because I felt I’d been invited in by the government’s pro-tech policies. Specifically, the KL20 initiative set out Malaysia’s ambition of becoming a top 20 global tech hub. Their MDEC digital nomad visas and MM2H investor visas were created to facilitate an influx of global talent and capital. And the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone was announced to facilitate the flow of capital and talent between Malaysia and Singapore, where I live. When taken in combination with Malaysia’s datacenter buildout and its policy of welcoming visa-free visits for 98% of the world, it seemed like Malaysia might be a great place to build a global tech hub that was simultaneously inexpensive and easy to visit (especially for non-Westerners). And that’s what we did, by creating Network School. It’s an international tech community with its first node in Forest City, Malaysia. We picked Forest City because it had millions of square feet of empty space, because it was one hour from Singapore’s capital markets, and because it was within the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone. Then, within 18 months, without a single penny of government money, we built Network School into a global attraction that brought thousands of engineers, investors, and builders from 70+ countries to learn technology, burn calories, earn online, and have fun, integrating with the local Malaysian economy along the way. Indeed, in terms of quantifiable contribution to the Malaysian economy, we’ve already invested 100M+ MYR in our campus to make it startup-friendly. For perspective, that’s about 4% of the budget of Johor, the Malaysian state where Forest City is located. We employ dozens of Malaysians directly and indirectly at every level from executive to staff. We’ve backed Malaysian tech startups like Collektr, hosted events for local teams like Superteam Malaysia, and are major customers of many local businesses like barbers, laundromats, and restaurants. We’ve also revitalized the multibillion-dollar Forest City project, causing millions of MYR in real estate appreciation. And, as the video below describes, we were on the cusp of a 500M+ MYR expansion to grow our community, as well as a global merit scholarship with my friend Amjad Masad of Replit. However, that emerging multi-billion dollar success story — which should rightfully have been hailed as a huge victory for the pro-tech policies of the Malaysian government — is at risk of being derailed by a fake story spread by an anonymous account named MP4P. In short: on the day before the July 11 Johor elections, MP4P posted an Instagram post falsely accusing Network School of harboring illegal aliens. The sensational accusations caused a tizzy in Malaysia, until Malaysian authorities came to our campus on July 14 to investigate. (I should note that the officers were very polite and professional.) After checking hundreds of physical passports from 40 countries, including dual passport holders, the authorities confirmed to the press on July 15 that all travel documents were in order. During the process, we cooperated fully; in the thread below you can see a photo of the men, women, and children of Network School smiling and holding up their passports in the bright daylight. Our faces are shown and our names are known; we have nothing to hide. With that said, the process is the punishment. What MP4P did is very similar to the American crime of “swatting”, because MP4P created a hoax report of a serious threat, thereby forcing the Malaysian police to take time away from protecting the Malaysian people towards investigating a nonexistent issue. Moreover, this anonymous MP4P account has also called for Malaysia to boycott Apple, Google, Amazon, and Microsoft…a move that would cost ordinary Malaysians thousands of jobs…even while MP4P’s own Instagram collaborators promote their Apple and Google apps! I mean, we aren’t talking about a credible accuser, but just someone screaming inconsistently at the top of their lungs on social media for traffic, an all-too-common phenomenon these days. Anyway, at this point, all further investment we were planning to make in Malaysia is on hold until we get sufficient assurance that such issues won’t recur. So are the investment plans of many of our friends, including the execs and investors at global tech firms that we brought to Forest City. Because to put it very plainly: we have invested 100M+ MYR in Malaysia, while creating jobs for dozens of Malaysians, and our faces and names are known. Our Malaysian executives and employees deserve the benefit of the doubt over anonymous internet trolls. There are two paths forward. In the first case, if Malaysia still wants continued global tech investment, if it wants to be a top 20 tech hub, if it wants us to revitalize Forest City, then we request an audience with the Prime Minister’s office to discuss the terms of a memorandum of understanding between Network School and the Malaysian government, similar to the document recently signed between the Solana Foundation and the Kazakhstan government. Specifics can of course be discussed, but we would publicly commit to abiding by all Malaysian laws (we already do) and respecting Malaysia’s sovereignty (never in question). In return, they’d get to know our friendly community, and realize that we actually chose Malaysia because we thought it was a great place to build a tech hub where engineers from the global South, investors from the West, and builders from Malaysia itself could meet new people, build cool things, and perhaps create millions of dollars in economic growth in the fullness of time. That vision of peace and trade, internationalism and entrepreneurialism, is still on the table. We aren’t asking for any money — just a meeting, to help restore confidence in Malaysia as an investable jurisdiction. Alternatively, if you don’t want our investment, or those of our colleagues at billion dollar funds and trillion dollar companies, we will of course respect your wishes, and reallocate our capital to other countries instead. Either way, we will remain friends and abide by your decision. Please let us know.
