My Daddy taught me how to fight, with boxing gloves when I was 7 yrs old. He wanted me to be able to defend myself, from bullies. He told me how to protect my face, how to jab, stick it and move. He taught me how to block punches, and to bob and weave.

Some people criticized me for blaming the parents - but I'm sorry, if your kid is being bvllied for 18 months & you don't even bother changing her school & simply say "we kept complaining but the school didn't do anything" - you ARE at fault. How can a parent be so passive and apathetic to a child's plight? Imagine what a 9 year old would have gone through to jump & even have such thoughts. Case 2 Compare this to how this girl was protected by her father when she was bvllied by her teachers at age 14. When parents stand up for you & protect you, the child feels safe and happy. This gives them a very strong self esteem coz they subconsciously believe that they'll always be safe and supported. Not standing up for your child or being passive/apathetic is nothing short of a massive heartbreak for a child. The child feels isolated, unloved, neglected and lonely. It crushes their self esteem and makes them more vulnerable to toxic people in life - coz subconsciously they believe no one will help them. For a child - their whole world is their parents. I’ve saved this clip from 2024. Maybe you’re a parent that needs to hear it now and maybe you’re a parent that needs to bookmark it for later to come back to. Either way if you have watched your child sacrifice the norms to not be of the norm and watched them fall short you can relate. For those that aren’t at this level yet- remember every match/game/point is big to them in moment and I think we minimize that thinking we are helping them when in reality we are protecting our own self from the hurt we feel when our child is hurting. Struggle and failure are life’s biggest teaching tools. They are also some of the most painful to go through, but more so to watch someone you love go through. I hope this helps some parents- now or in the future or even those parents of kids at the younger ages. Hopefully you focus on building healthy relationships with your kids over their win loss record. Hopefully you are praising them not only in their successes, but also in their failures of trying so they continue to just that- try.
