In 2012, then Law Minister Salman Khurshid announced a 9% Muslim reservation promise in Uttar Pradesh during the Model Code of Conduct. When the Election Commission censured him, the Congress attacked the institution instead of accepting responsibility, backing down only after PM Manmohan Singh’s intervention. The question remains: When will the Congress stop appeasement politics, respect institutions, and accept accountability?
