Where was this when I was an app dev 😭😭

Building custom billing from scratch is where most app projects add six months and half the bugs. Happy to see Shopify absorbing that complexity so devs don't have to.

With Shopify App Pricing, merchants see the same clear billing details everywhere they look: the App Store listing, plan selection in the Admin, the charge approval screen, their bill in the Admin, and the PDF that arrives by email. It's also the only way to surface usage charges on these screens, with a built-in slider that makes it easy for merchants to estimate their costs upfront.

How's this better? Shopify has always handled the billing, there are bo surprises as all the plans are clearly visible to merchants and the confusion is mostly caused when merchants are billed after they uninstall an app.

Ah man this is lovely, but we just switched our pricing to something that I don't think will be compatible. Also don't love that custom plans are limited to only 20 merchants.

usage-based billing can drastically reduce complexity, empowering developers to focus on innovation rather than infrastructure.

Shopify is nothing but a dirty, rat-infested organization.

The Theme Store needs a billing update so, so badly. It's far more limiting than the App Store billing ever was. We can't even get merchant emails when they purchase a theme! We're living in the stone ages over there compared to this smh
