I’m excited to kick off the first of our short courses focused on agents, starting with Building Agentic RAG with LlamaIndex, taught by Jerry Liu, CEO of LlamaIndex 🦙. Steve Jobs was a great communicator of technology, and we could learn something from him today, in the context of AI. Sam Altman recently said, "If AI stays on the trajectory we think it will, then amazing things will be possible. Maybe with 10 gigawatts of compute, AI can figure out how to cure cancer." That's a fine quote. The abundance AI promises is super exciting. But Sam is saying that AI is going to figure out how to cure cancer. And if you've used these tools today, and talked to people who are at the labs, the reality is it's much more likely that humans will use AI to cure cancer. Steve might have said: "If AI stays on the trajectory we think it will, then amazing things will be possible. Maybe with 10 gigawatts of compute, humans can use AI to cure cancer." Small tweak, but a big difference. Steve Jobs was not one to shy away from impressive specs and massive scale, but flipping the final line from "AI will cure cancer" to "Humans will use AI to cure cancer" makes all the difference. Apple under Steve Jobs put human centrality at the heart of everything they did. And we need that spirit to infuse how we communicate about AI today.

And I think that has totally flipped. Honestly, I think that was wrong... If you're asking the question of like, how do we evaluate people on exactly the thing that AI can already do, that seems kind of the wrong. Our interview process has always been... you can use as much AI as you want to use. We're going to give you a few hours. Just build your whole own product surface. A lot of these are projects that, frankly, is like, if you were trying to do this by hand, you would not be able to get done in a few hours. So you kind of have to use AI for this. There are some use cases that we have to be extremely careful about—as in all great technology. If you look at the progress of technology over the years, electricity, the internet, computers, the automobile, I think we can all, all accept that in each one of those cases, there are situations and cases where we have to be very careful about. So as the creators of this technology, the industry has to be mindful, thoughtful, rigorous about building and advancing this technology properly. This is the first technology in my generation where we invented a new computer technology where it's easier to access than not. For example the computer until now has been programmable for about 30 million people in the world. About 30 million of us know how to program it and apply it to some useful career. Now everybody in the world can program an AI. You just go up to it and just say, 'I'd like to, you know, ask you to do something.' Is AI going to replace CEOs or just make the existing ones 10 times richer? I think it'll make everybody richer, if they learn how to use the tool. It's a re-education to understand how to use the models. We use them in our businesses for example, there's 95 words in a 15-second social media post about a business. So we'll let the copywriter write the first pass and then we'll put it through five different models. Then we'll test it and see which one gets better engagement. We can do all that for a fraction of the cost it would have been five years ago.

Our first short course with Anthropic! Building Towards Computer Use with Anthropic. This teaches you to build an LLM-based agent that uses a computer interface by generating mouse clicks and keystrokes. Computer Use is an important, emerging capability for LLMs that will let AI agents do many more tasks than were possible before, since it lets them interact with interfaces designed for humans to use, rather than only tools that provide explicit API access. Our first short course with Anthropic! Building Towards Computer Use with Anthropic. This teaches you to build an LLM-based agent that uses a computer interface by generating mouse clicks and keystrokes.
