We talk about this a lot actually, how studios are afraid to present people who are flawed. Ambiguous characters are always so much more interesting than, here's the good guy, here's the bad guy.

When everything is political then your characters, heroes, and villains speak for you in some way...for when you're obviously trying to communicate (🙄) If they're assholes, it must be that you are either an asshole yourself or saying that their assholery is ok. Flawed characters are the best. They represent the realist of ppl and should be in more media. It makes the story better too.

It’s a MOVIE!!. I was listening to Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey on Office Ladies talk about Comic-Con. People kept coming up to them, legitimately shocked that Jim and Pam weren’t actually married with kids in real life. They were surprised these were just two human beings with spouses, children, and entire lives outside of Dunder Mifflin. They’re actors. Portraying characters. The Cable Guy diagnosed this exact condition years ago.

Ambiguous is great, but sometimes I do just want good guy and bad guy. Nuance is great, but so are Anton Chighur and Atticus Finch.
