We though it couldn't get any better than this

GoldenEye 64 looked awesome back in the day (still does tbh). But, the game play is why it still lives on. Plus, it was one of the few games that you enjoyed listening to the pause music on.

Man, that first guard has been killed like 434,284,489,389 times!

Instead, it’s the gameplay that couldn’t get any better…..unfortunately 😔

With Nintendo Switch 2 graphics.

Quit speed running it bro, savor every step and hit marker

The Golden Age of Bond Games.

The graphics got better, but the gameplay got worse

Ha, 1997 me fully believed polygons were the ceiling and nothing could ever top this. Standing in those blocky 3D worlds for the first time genuinely felt like the future had arrived. #retrogaming #90s #gaming #retrogames #GamersUnite

And now we got games that look like this coming out 🤯

And no aim assist.

Literally nobody thought this. PS3 was the last generation I cared about graphics.

I remember thinking this was basically indistinguishable from reality

That player is not bad

It’s not about graphics. It’s about responsiveness. Older games like 007 felt immediate because your actions translated directly into what happened on screen. Low input latency makes aiming, movement, and reactions feel natural and connected to your hands. Real life doesn’t have input buffering, aim smoothing, or animations that make your actions feel delayed. Better graphics mean nothing if the controls feel disconnected. Responsiveness is what makes a game feel real.

Graphics are still good. The controller setup though, I’m not sure how we survived 😮💨

Multi player on this shit was so sick

Os gráficos melhoraram mas perderam a alma, prefiro os gráficos antigos mesmo

In all honesty, 90% of new games have 8 bit graphics or are horrible in one way or the other, a actual game with well rendered non AI graphics that make sense, it was about the utopia of graphics precluding about 5-10 modern Titels

I started gaming on the 2600 around '83/'84, i think. Fourteen years later with Goldeneye, the improvement is ridiculous. I would wager we are far behind where we should be for 30 years on from this.

No, we didn't. We thought we would have holodecks.

Graphics got better but Gameplay got worse

The character models in Goldeneye are fucking atrocious looking but I'll give credit that the environments still hold up fairly well and that flyby camera looks sick.

I remember reading GameFan thinking every single game going forward would be 5.0 in graphics

Graphics got better, but music peaked.

did it?

I miss halo 1 lans

Still holds up

And we were right!

Wave Race for N64 felt like the pinnacle of gaming graphics. The water rendering was gorgeous.

Apparently still true, cause modern computers still suck at emulating it!

Not woke BS in those old school games.

We said the same thing about Cyberpunk. Time will tell.
