6 y/o me: mummy what does this word mean? Mum: go find the dictionary and bring it here. Find the word, spell it out and tell me what it means 20 years later and I’m a trained researcher 🤓

My Mother biggest thing to say ifyou dont know what the word means dont use it… so I stayed looking words up and or literally would read the dictionary lol 😂

💯 we had to explain why we did some stupid sh*t...adults needed to know if you was "slow" "medium" or "fast"😂

I legit ask my kids questions. “Why wouldn’t you turn the light off if you’re not in the room?” Children deserve opportunities to think through their choices. The key is asking without belittling, shaming, or talking down to them.

Lolol Nigerians really ate with “what is the meaning of this” or “what is the meaning of what you’re doing”

My grandma wouldn’t answer a question or spell anything until we at least attempted to look it up in either or both of the 2 sets of encyclopedias sets she had. One for kids and one standard set. After a good honest try she would THEN help us figure things outs.

“NO .. NO BUT TELL ME WHAT MADE U THINK THAT WAS A GOOD IDEA!?? TELL ME !!”

We got “Now, tell me how that makes sense” and “walk me through this process I wanna hear it” 😂😂😂

💯 My Dad used to ask “what were you thinking?” If you didn’t have an answer it was your ASS. We had to give the full line of thinking abt how we came to the conclusion. Critical thinking was enforced.

Especially an epidemic among men who grow up to “not know” basic hygiene and chores. Boys need hard manual labor type discipline often as children.

Yea my grandma used to ask me if things made sense & what stuff meant lmao! And if I couldn’t explain what a song meant, I wasn’t allowed to sing it lol . Incompetency/stupidity was not a thing growing up in my house.

Yoooooo… Let you not use your fucking brain/common sense in mama house growing up. Got your ass beat. 🤷🏾♂️😂🤣 Tough parenting but it worked on me!

I got a “Wtf were you thinking?” when I did something stupid.

It will forever be hilarious to me that my brother got put on punishment after getting hit by a car because my mom said it was his fault and his reason was stupid. 😭😭 He said he went into the crosswalk even though the light said not to because the a man next to him did it 😂

Yes my mom would say I know I did not raise no fools and we knew to check my shit cuz I did something stupid ! And she better not tell you twice cuz you gonna get it !

My parents and grandparents called it “ignorance gone to seed.”

@HeyyDiva She is so beautiful

@RapGodVon I do this now with my 7 year old! Act like you got sense

@francemothers Mannnn this is so true! Ask a question get hit w/ the "what do u think?" followed by look of stern, genuine concern. Then they'd send u off to find an educated guess based on something relevant.

This should be shown whenever anyone opens up a social media app. Twitter, threads, instagram, etc. This should be shown before ppl start typing so they can think “I’m I that stupid?” Or “Does that make sense to me?” Before they start tweeting or typing

Facts my family didn’t play that! You just singing shit and don’t know the meaning of it 🤣🤣🤣

@4theloveofZa My daughter literally hateessss when I do this but IDC! I’m raising a critical thinker whether she cares or not.

Exactly this! My grandmother used to say "Oh, you must have not been standing in line the day God gave out common sense." This is the reason I CANNOT be around dummies now.

What she’s describing is not weaponized incompetence, it’s just standard stupidity.

Our parents weren't lost...... They knew exactly what they were doing!

My parents or grandparents used to have dictionaries in the house, have fruitful conversations bout things, analyzed songs. A lot of ppl are just left to their devices or watch one video bout something and suddenly think they an expert. Tsk

Facts on this right here. We would be stopped in our tracks for saying or repeating stupidity. My mom would say: convince me of what you’re saying is true. Or that you being loud doesn’t make what you’re saying true. Common sense is a deficit in America.

Sad that's literally everyone on the Internet now. Disrespectful and surface level. No research. No statistics. Don't read. But will argue just for the sake of. 70 is the new baseline average IQ instead of 100 IMO. These kids are just dummies.

"were you in the line when they were passing out common sense or were you in the line to take your brain out"😭😭 my mom will say that to me and my sister in the morning before school if we did something dumb, lol those days🤣🤣She ate with that one

Real talk! We were held accountable. And they asked these things NOT in a joking way. I'm glad they were hard on us this way

Young woman you are completely right. There is so much more information available on many different platforms. However, research, reading or conversations is seriously lacking today. What happened?

Is your family Caribbean? Lol . . "Does that make sense to you" is one of their favorite questions 😂

I remember being a 10y/o and my mum asking me to explain the lyrics of Rihanna’s S&M… I was stumped💀😂

@GlamazonJay Critical thinking has become rare.
