Love this video but worth noting that L.A. had 811 homicides in 1987 compared to 230 in 2025. Another factoid: Los Angeles was the homeless capital of the U.S. in 1987. It's no secret there are still problems here but curious what about this video made it a 'proper city' then as opposed to now? Honest dialogue is the only real dialogue.

Thanks I have posted about this a while back . Los Angeles is a huge city of course and has tons of neighborhoods. In most parts of the country city of la would be broken up into many different cities . The most violent area of Los Angeles has been south la for a long time and still is today We now have all kinds of violent crime / random attacks in areas where it would have been a big deal before and now barely makes the news. Back then more people were able to afford to live in safer areas than today too .. Also just generally having a cleaner city without encampments all over make it a proper city .. you wouldn’t see stuff like that outside of skid row for the most part when I was younger Years of bad policy decisions made it so .. this is why even close by cities that are also expensive don’t have this problem regarding encampments / open drug scenes .. it’s simply not tolerated and that results in a higher quality of life for residents . As things got more progressive policy wise things got worse … it’s not just an la thing but also San Francisco and other cities. I know a lot of people don’t want to hear that but it is the truth … This at least is what I’ve seen as a native and living here my whole life

Yes, we sure did. San fernando Valley raised. Now it's a shithole, from the west to the east. I grew up in Northridge, and now I can't believe what has happened from Northridge to Woodland Hills.

Winnetka yesterday .. in case you missed it

Last year, my buddy set up shop little canopy and tried to sell some shirts he printed tried to promote his t shirt business, 3 hours later got shut down for no permits, and fined, $450. But yet food vendors could sell all day and night. I don't get it.

Los Angeles was still gritty and dangerous in the 80s and 90s. Sunset Strip might have been at its peak back in the day. 2000s to 2020 was a grand time to be in LA. Jobs were plentiful and opportunities were abound. It’s all been downhill from there.

Ah, yes, the "good old days," when L.A. had a 1,000 plus murders in a single year, compared to today when Los Angeles' homicide numbers are a multi-decade record low. You can look up the numbers yourself.

I remember in the 90’s, we could still walk on Hollywood Bl late at night on the weekends. So Sad How We Lost It.

Weird I don’t even know who you are and it’s the first time you’ve interacted with me on here Don’t follow me then .. I have over 56,000 people that like my content … take care

This is what happens when Democrats are in control. They destroy everything with their liberal and lawless ideologies.

Why didn’t I see any tents on this drive through Hollywood?

Nearly all of that Sunset Boulevard video is actually the City of West Hollywood, an independent municipality and not L.A.

Born and raised here since 1959. The decline is alternately disheartening and infuriating. No corner of Los Angeles remains uninfected by the fetid rot of corrupt leftist politicians/criminals.

Demtards taking over and the third world importation will do that.

Hollywood?? In the eighties it was fun for us to cruise or go to Carney's for late night grub after partying (walked past Timothy Hutton there once- bluest eyes you've ever seen). But the hookers were all out, and the drug dealers, and bums. Really wasn't until the 2000s it got cleaned up, but that's all in the toilet now.

Until the 1992 L.A. Riots, when gangs started taking over more and more neighborhoods. California's 1st major exodus .

This part of LA still pretty much looks the same now.

Driving a stick and always terrified of the stop light at La Cienega and Sunset. Those were the good old days!

At this point California needs some shit like that Purge movie.

..not a fan of that smog sky though, I don't miss THAT. It used to creep me out coming down here to visit family with that rotten sky.

Los Angeles was already a shithole in the 80s.

Is that the sunset Tower records? I once saw a leper inside there.

MAGA proper violation. No thanks.

I used to spend so much time there on Sunset Blvd, being at the clubs (Gazzarri's was our fav) and playing the stages. Even had a car breakdown there, never felt in danger or threatened.

@DeniseAnnHB LA used to be beautiful. California used to be part of that "shining city on a hill". Then the Democrats came along, and as with everything else they touch, they absolutely destroyed them both 💔💔💔

Bill Maher on a podcast was talking about how nice it was between the 70s-90s, talked about it like it was paradise.

There's another video out there somewhere of a guy that filmed his commute. It was cool to see, but sad as well.

I grew up in LA during the 1980s. My goodness kids can be kids. We have after school programs with instruments paid by the school. Companies and people flocked to California and the beaches were full. I miss those days.

I enjoyed my trips to L.A. back then.

Technically that's West Hollywood. I recognize it - it's my hood!

I feel like these clips of Sunset Blvd almost look identical to that today?????

The deep state couldn’t allow our economy to be that successful. Destroying our biggest cities is all part of their plan to weaken the country.

Good ol days!

Now it's a hollowed out shell. So sad.

Yes. My husband and I were there. Good times. Great city. Then.

I saw the San Fernando Valley turning to shit in the late 80’s, so I moved out. So sad! I used to be proud of being from there.

I never saw the city but it looks amazing

@grok who founded the city of Los Angeles, CA ?
