We warned that proscription would have a dangerous chilling effect on freedom of expression. Now we see armed officers threatening to arrest people with Palestine flags and free Gaza placards. There is no lawful basis for this police behaviour.

Last month, I warned that proscribing Palestine Action would result in the mass criminalisation of people who are not even members of the group. Now more than 500 people have been arrested. I voted against the proscription. We shouldn't be conflating protest with terrorism.

The support has been overwhelming, and I will be suing for wrongful arrest along with applying for all bail conditions to be lifted with immediate effect. The arrest video across X has had 4–5 million views, and the Metropolitan Police once again have shown themselves to be corrupt, two-tier led, authoritarian agents of the state. The police work for the people and are supposed to protect us – on Saturday the opposite happened. We need to fight back on all levels against this blatant attack on freedom of speech and suffocation of expression and debate – if we don't, we will see the end of democracy in the UK. When you see this video with all the riot police, you would think to yourself that they are dealing with a huge crowd of aggressive, violent, angry people. They you see who they were actually facing. No big mob. No weapons. No banners with angry slogans. No indication of violence or threatening behaviour. What the hell went wrong with our Police? Do they feel proud when they treat their own people like this? Is this what they want for our country? For their kids and grandkids? Shame on them all 🤬
